I'm off tomorrow.

My schedule is as follows:

1. Sleep until my wife kicks me in the ass.

2. Wake up without an erection because my wife is yelling at me.

3. Ooze out of bed towards the shower.

4. Have five full minutes of peace until she yells at me to hurry the farg up.

5. Dress.

6. Take the kid to school.

7. Get a coffee at Starbucks.

8. Come home, guzzle coffee.

9. Go back to bed.

10. Wake up, then farg around on the internet until I have to pick my kid up from school.

Diomedes

at least 1/3 of my days I start with a cold shower because my landlord/neighbor has showered before me.  This is almost guaranteed for me tomorrow, because it's 12:40a.m. and I'm still chilling with you idiots

It's the middle of summer here. Hot showers are not a good idea in a country that doesn't believe in heating/cooling their homes.

Biden was trying to say that Obama's is the first black presidential campaign that isn't a joke, which is historically accurate but is probably best left unsaid by politicians anyway. Biden tried to blunt that sentiment a little and wound up sticking his foot even further in his mouth, as he often does and will likely do many times in the future.

Biden's statement and Eugene Robinson's response reflect some of the divide in the Democratic Party revealed by Obama's candidacy. A lot of white liberals are expressing relief that the party finally has a black leader that they don't have to be embarassed about. The previous generaration of black leadership never gained mainstream acceptability in the Party, not so much because they "acted black" or "talked Ebonics", but because they did things like race bait, say nasty things about Jews, engage in extremely shady monetary deals, father illegimate children, etc. A wealthy urbanite, labor leader, or big city political machine had a hard time treating those guys as serious figures without an air of awkwardness or condescension. Therefore to Biden and people of similar mind, Obama is a "storybrook" messiah, finally a black leader in the party who they don't have to pretend to like.

Robinson's response typifies the feelings of a lot of blacks that still see guys like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton as legitimate leaders deserving of respect. They see men who speak to them in the passionate black oratory style being quickly pushed aside by white liberals eager to shove a guy down their throats who was raised in a white family and comes across as substantially more culturally white than Bill Clinton. To them, that's the most obvious difference between Obama and the previous generation of leaders -- not the lack of scandal. Notice that Robinson focusses entirely on the "articulate" rather than the "clean" part of the statement. He's outraged that the Bidens of the world seemingly don't recognize the articulateness of the old black leaders. To the average black Democrat it looks a heck of a lot like the rest of the party will accept you only if you act like a white guy.

There's enough truth in either way of looking at it to ensure this divide will continue for a long time, or at least until the party produces a culturally black candidate who has an immaculate record.

Robinson did his job by playing the sanctimonious commentor, but he added absolutely nothing.  His comments were utterly predicatble and while I don't really disagree with him, I think he's wasting valuable inches.  Biden is going nowhere, and not just because of his recent comments.

I don't think Robinson is being overly sensitive, I just think what he's saying is essentially frivolous.  We all know that blacks are called "articulate" and whites are called "eloquent."  We all know why.  Must we focus on this?  Make yet another explication of it?  Pointless.

Use those inches for better subjects.  Like discussion of policy.  What policy might Biden support?  What has he supported?  Etc.

Wishful thinking. The media's not interested in covering anything like that. Even more unfortunately, the reason the media isn't interested is because neither is the general public.

Al is a great speaker, and I have to say I agree with a lot of what he says.  Too bad his integrity is so flawed.

I'm not a Sharpton fan (surprising!), but is his integrity any worse than the average politician?

It's perceived to be, and that's more important than whether it actually is.
