SD & Dio couldn't be more wrong.

There was no evacuating 6-7M people for this storm. Let's say that even 4M NEEDED to evacuate that is not happening in 2 days. This time last week this wasn't expected to be shtein. Literally was going to be a rainy weekend. I was pissed I wouldn't be able to go to the pool.

It then developed into "oh...we'll get a tropical storm" and then a "Cat-1".

Thursday was the news it would be a 3 and possibly a 4 and we'd be on the "dirty side" of it.

I wasn't here for this but I am well versed in it from seeing it on the news and reading about in. In 2006 Rita was bearing down and people evacuated. Katrina fears and all that. Over 100 people died on the roads because of the gridlock. I'm not talking accidents either - I am talking people dying in their cars because they were broken down from sitting. A drive that would normally take one hour took people, who could even make it, 24 hours. A 35 minute drive? 17 hours.

With a one week notice...like the storm comes around Haiti/Florida and is tracking our way? Yeah...you can evacuate. Contraflow lanes in effect and lets go. The way this one developed, how quickly it developed and where it hit severely limited the evacuation ability.

The problem is way deeper than that...the sprawl and the lack of zoning and all that plays a huge part. Also the fact that our two reservoirs are rated as 1's by the ACOE and they will not spend to fix them...another problem.

There was no evacuating that many people in this short period of time. Couldn't go south. Couldn't go east or west. The only way out was north or northwest. So that limits the escape-ability too.

I'm glad you're ok J, hope all your stuff is, too.

Munson

One of the things I saw was Houston has little/no zoning laws and the way the city was built made the flooding worse and make evacuation harder.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Thanks man, yes I'm all good.

Some people lost everything. The rescue and relief response has been overwhelming. I'm gonna go help out this weekend with whatever needs to be done. Saw some dudes in fan boats in the mcdonalds lot today and stopped to thank them and buy breakfast.

Munson you're right. No zoning. The only thing you pretty much can't do is built a titty bar next to a school or church.

Speaking of churches....farg that opportunistic shteinbag grifter Joel Osteen.

Looting is an issue. My best friends uncle is a cop here and they've had an entire street worth of Wheels and tires stolen from cars. Someone in my complex had their shtein jacked during the 6" per hour rainfall.

People are marching around neighborhoods with shotguns making sure shtein isn't stolen

And then you have this fella

5 Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter in Flint Water Crisis

QuoteFive officials in Michigan, including the head of the state's health department, were charged on Wednesday. It is the closest investigators have come to directly blaming officials for the deaths and illnesses that occurred when a water contamination crisis enveloped this city.

Quote"The Flint water crisis was and is a failure of leadership," said an investigative report issued on Wednesday by Bill Schuette, Michigan's attorney general. "A cause of the breakdown in state governmental management was a fixation, a preoccupation, with data, finances and costs, instead of placing the health, safety and welfare of citizens first."

Besides, the report found, a solution for Flint's essential water problem was maddeningly simple, and cheap: The addition of common anti-corrosion chemicals could have cost the financially struggling city only $200 a day.

But officials failed to take that step when they switched the city's water supply in early 2014, the investigators said, partly to save money. Residents began complaining of puzzling colors, putrid odors and an array of rashes and illnesses, which eventually included Legionnaires' disease.

The man. The myth. The legend.
