Lol.  Everyone remembers Clinton playing the sax on Arsenio and getting a hummer from a fat white chick, but people got amnesia when it comes to his 1994 Crime Bill with the 3 strikes rule that paved the way for the industrialized prison complex and mass incarceration of minorities with minor criminal records.

He's somewhat recently come out and admitted it was a mistake, but that doesn't change the fact that over the previous 20+ years his crime bill was a major enabler in mass minority incarceration.  That's an enormous stain on what was otherwise a pretty good Presidency.

Quote
Bill Clinton, April 7:  What she's referring to are the increased sentencing provisions of the 1994 crime bill. Ninety percent of the people in prison too long are in state prisons and local jails, more than 90 percent. But it's also true that there are too many people in the state prisons, I mean the federal prisons. President Obama is trying to let them out. Here's what happened. Let's just tell the whole story. ...

Here's what happened. Vice President Biden, you guys know Vice President Biden, whose family comes from Scranton. He was the chairman of the committee that had jurisdiction over this crime bill. I had an assault weapons ban in it. I had money for inner-city kids for out-of-school activities. We had 110,000 police officers, so we could put people on the street, not in these military vehicles, and the police would look like the people they were policing. We did all of that.

And Biden said, 'You can't pass this bill, the Republicans will kill it if you don't put more sentencing in.' I talked to a lot of African American groups. They thought black lives mattered. They said, 'Take this bill because our kids are being shot in the streets by gangs.' We had 13-year-old kids planning their own funerals.

She doesn't want to hear any of that. [Clinton said, pointing at the protester.] You know what else she doesn't want to hear, because of that bill we had a 25-year low in crime, a 33-year low in the murder rate. And listen to this, because of that and the background check law we had a 46-year low in the deaths of people by gun violence. And who do you think those lives were that mattered. Whose lives were saved that mattered?

No, the enormous stain part was on Lewinsky.

I'm barely on here anymore but I've seen you talk about this many times. I don't know a single person that blames someone being in prison on Clinton. Do you have like personal stories that make this important to you or have you just read it. Not trying to be douchey just curious because it's not something I hear from anyone else.

It's something I've read about over the years and is something that I think Clinton is too often given a free pass on. No personal impact by it. Not even a grudge against Clinton. It's simply something that he did that has had some horrific consequences on minorities.

I'm not going to say it was an intentional side affect because I wasn't there and I don't know what was going through his mind at the time, but intentional or not, that bill paved the way for extremely harsh prison sentences for petty crooks and life sentences for people convicted of a violent crime even if they had 2 non-violent priors.  It was basically the starting point for the modern militarized police everyone hates and it also provided fed money to states for prison expenses. Mo' prisoners, Mo' money.

When the bill was signed, crime had already started on its downward trend so it's hard to say just how effective this bill actually was in lowering that number over the years. Also, when the bill was signed, incarceration rates in this country were already on a steady 2 decade trend heading upward and those numbers only continued to rise after the bill was enacted. So we were seeing a drop in crime but a rise in incarceration rates. Seems kind of hard for those 2 stats to flow in opposite directions, doesn't it?

That's idiotic even for you. The people who voted for Obama couldn't be bothered to vote for Hillary.

Sgt PSN

Really makes you wonder how Bernie would have faired vs Trump. Before the election I was of the mindset that eventhough I preferred Bernie, he wouldn't have much of a chance in the presidential election. But looking at how Bernie voters went for Trump and also how many people stayed home because Hillary and Trump were both disgusting candidates, I'm pretty sure that Bernie could have won if he were the D nominee.
