Retired Army Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn, while serving as an adviser to the Trump campaign, met with top Turkish government ministers and discussed removing a Muslim cleric from the U.S. and taking him to Turkey, according to former Central Intelligence Agency Director James Woolsey, who attended, and others who were briefed on the meeting.

The discussion late last summer involved ideas about how to get Fethullah Gulen, a cleric whom Turkey has accused of orchestrating last summer's failed military coup, to Turkey without going through the U.S. extradition legal process, according to Mr. Woolsey and those who were briefed.

Mr. Woolsey told The Wall Street Journal he arrived at the meeting in New York on Sept. 19 in the middle of the discussion and found the topic startling and the actions being discussed possibly illegal.

U.S.-Turkish relations deteriorated in the final year of the Obama administration over disagreements about extraditing Mr. Gulen and U.S. support for Syrian Kurdish forces battling Islamic State. The Turkish government has been demanding Mr. Gulen's extradition to face charges that he was the architect of an unsuccessful military coup last summer to overthrow Mr. Erdogan.

Mr. Gulen, who since 1999 has lived in the Pocono Mountains north of Philadelphia and has a green card giving him permission to live in the U.S., denies involvement. Mr. Erdogan has been trying for years to undermine Mr. Gulen, a onetime ally whom Turkey has now branded as a terrorist leader.

Down here when registering to vote you don't choose a party - you're just registered with no affiliation attached.

Today in the office was a nice day. Actually the last couple weeks have been nice. I turned up the smugness on the Trumpers. Listening to one of my fellow liberals talk to a Trumper was nice - all I did was throw in troll commentary.

Btw that mentally ill bitch Alex Jones dropped an apology for his role in blaming the pizza shop owner for the sex trafficking thing. He did this in the midst of the news of the healthcare failing so a news dump. Maybe he will one day apologize for being a lying bitch about Sandy Hook too.

i agree wholeheartedly on the empty suit part i just dont think as a senator representing a whole state versus a house member representing a small wildly right wing district in alabama he would vote for such an unbelievably awful bill...theres a lot of terrible things you can say about rubio but hes not out there politically on some island....hes an establishment pub in the mold of the bushes...you may be right but i just cant see him ever voting for something like what they were putting forward

Russia's state news service applies for White House pass

Andrew Feinberg, Sputnik's White House correspondent, has been in talks with the WHFPG head Philip Crowther, who told POLITICO that if Feinberg and Sputnik complete the boilerplate criteria for being a member of the press group, there "shouldn't be any reason" they wouldn't join the White House press pool.

Among the criteria to become a WHFPG member is a White House-approved hard pass, membership in the White House Correspondents' Association, and State Department verification that the network is, indeed, based in another country. Other state-sponsored outlets are part of the rotating foreign pool, including Crowther's France 24 and China's CCTV.

Sputnik is one of Russia's government-funded news outlets aimed at international audiences. Launched in 2014, Sputnik has a goal of providing "alternative interpretations that are, undoubtedly, in demand around the world," its head Dimitry Kiselyov said at the launch.
