Eventually, violence did strike. An antifascist protester was shot during one of the many small melees that broke out during the evening. Police said a 34-year-old man was seriously wounded by the gunfire and was in critical condition at a local hospital after undergoing surgery.

A man earlier identified as a "person of interest" in the case – described by the Seattle Times as an Asian man in a black leather coat with a maroon shirt underneath – turned himself in to police later and was arrested along with a man who accompanied him to the station. Both were later released without charges.

President Donald Trump will begin work on dismantling the financial regulations enacted after the 2008 economic crisis, hours after the first major economic report of his administration is released.

Trump's executive moves won't have an immediate effect on Wall Street oversight. But they're likely to draw sharp criticism from Democrats and reform proponents who say the regulations that the President is looking to scrap could prevent another meltdown.

In two executive actions, Trump plans to direct his administration to evaluate regulatory action taken by his predecessor, Barack Obama, with an eye toward eliminating what his advisers say are burdensome rules on financial services firms and consumers.

He'll also force the delay of an Obama-era rule that required retirement advisers to act in their clients' best interests.

Donald Trump Plans to Undo Dodd-Frank Law, Fiduciary Rule

The fiduciary rule, unveiled last spring and set to go into effect in April, would restrict how brokers can provide retirement advice by forcing them to work in the best interest of their clients and generally avoid conflicts, which can come about with commission-based compensation. It stands to affect about $3 trillion of retirement assets in the U.S., according to research firm Morningstar Inc.

Good thing there was such an outpouring of disgust and rage over her nomination because that really made a huge difference in the vote.

Fact is if they'll confirm her they'll confirm anyone and all of this hand-wringing is pointless until the mid-term elections.  And even then people won't bother to vote because being apathetic is less work.

It's not just apathy; it's the knowledge that Congressmen give little, or zero, fargs about their constituencies. They almost unilaterally vote down the party line, and if they don't, it's not because it will benefit the voter, but because there's some rider in the bill that benefits one of their favorite lobbyists.

I'd be willing to bet that the United States is the only democracy in the world that doesn't have viable alternatives to the two polarized parties.
