He's called for a truce on the culture wars and has balanced the Indiana budget (with significant help from federal funds, but still) while expanding health care coverage in his state and reforming education. He also ran the budget under Bush (whoops) and is three and a half feet tall. Also, his wife left him, married another dude, left that dude and remarried him. Which is weird.

This is about 800 times more helpful than his Wikipedia article.

Well, bad news...the economy added 200K+ new jobs this past month, gas prices are expected to drop back down to the 3.40-3.50 range for the summer, and the Republicans still don't have a viable candidate that can/will appeal to their entire base of supporters.

And the liberal voting base has been re-invigorated thanks to all of the state government GOP's making the huge mistake in thinking that 2010 meant they could swing far Right and start stripping away Union rights.

2012 will be a little closer than 2008, but Obama's still the favorite right now.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Obama is a small favorite to "the field" and a huge favorite to any one other candidate.

But this time in 2007, the economy and the housing market were relatively fine, getting out of Iraq was the biggest campaign issue, and Hillary Clinton was all-but guaranteed to be the Democratic nominee.

So, let's not get too carried away with predictions for the next 18 months.

Unemployment rising last month is, relatively speaking, a good thing. It means people are actually getting back out and looking for jobs. The 8.8% number was never a true representation of the employment situation in this country. 'Under-employment' is still around 15%. The economy has added something like 750,000 jobs this year. After adding several million last year. To argue that we are not headed in the right direction is to not understand the employment situation in this country in the slightest.

lol at obama being wildly unpopular.  maybe with racist teabagging imbeciles he is but with moderates and progressives he's still golden.   he's got more than enough support to beat any republican mostly because every last one of them are empty suits.

rjs246

Actually Progressives really dislike a lot of what he's done. He compromises too easily and gives more than he gets. But who are they gonna vote for? They'll say that they wish someone else were there but in the end of course they are gonna vote for Barry.

There's a difference between traditional northeastern progressives and liberal kooks.   liberal nuts hate Obama almost as much as the klan, that's true.

But rank & file traditional progs like his performance for the same reasons we repeat here every day.

I'm not thrilled with every policy decision he's made, but he is at his worst infinitely better than any alternate Republican.

ice grillin you

I watched most of the Republican debate on Fox and I'm not sure I get the Cain love.  I don't think he came off better than anyone up there other than Santorum who I may despise more than anyone in America.

I thought Gary Johnson actually looked the best by far.  He's not presidential in the least, but he at least seemed real and didn't just spout party lines the whole time.

Mitch Daniels said a few nice things about making truce in the culture war, then he mounted up for the Fetus Obsessed Right:

Quote"Justice was done," Obama said. "And I think that anyone who would question that the perpetrator of mass murder on American soil didn't deserve what he got needs to have their head examined."

I like the quote a lot. His rhetoric could have been more compromising to those who feel killing should always be avoided if possible for religious reasons, but he dunked over them.

more details on the raid emerge (warning:  this paper has an agenda)

Obama insisted on a backup team to act as immediate reinforcements should the Pakistani police or military engage the first ones in they would fight not talk their way out.
Two teams were prepared in the event that a.) Osama was killed..plan was to bury him or b.) he was captured alive..team full of spooks and lawyers (same difference).
U.S. will be given access to Bin Laden's women

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.
