Does any right-thinking person actually want Obama to be defeated? I know I know. But we saw the kind of backlash and uproar that was caused by the most recent one-party rule. With the Rs poised to take the Senate does anyone really want to see the pendulum swing so far in the other direction? Sounds like a goddamned nightmare regardless of which side of the aisle you prefer.

the best part of the interview is right after the quote sd referenced there is a pause
and obama simply nods his head while looking hard straight ahead
then they pause again
then cut to the ticking 60 minutes clock
then i had chills
then gooey fishies stained my zipper area

Now you're sounding like Chris Matthews.

I agree. Plus, I haven't seen one potential Republican nominee worth a damn yet. So why not keep some continuity in the Oval Office?

rjs246

But you still wouldn't vote for Obama, I assume.

Actually, I would. As NC went unpredictably for the Prez in 2008, it could definitely be considered a swing state. Thus, my vote kind of matters, and I'm not going to vote for his opponent if said opponent is not an improvement. I am also not voting third party unless someone worthy actually stands a chance of getting some electoral votes.

Obama gets the nod against Palin, I'll tell you that farging much right now.

What about Obama v. Daniels in the hypothetical scenario where your vote matters and we will be facing one-party rule?

I have no idea why I'm curious about this but I am since I assume that Daniels is your kind of candidate.

I don't know enough about Daniels to make that call, but compared to the other douches' names out there, not knowing is a start.

I'm slightly concerned that he may be a gnome.

He's called for a truce on the culture wars and has balanced the Indiana budget (with significant help from federal funds, but still) while expanding health care coverage in his state and reforming education. He also ran the budget under Bush (whoops) and is three and a half feet tall. Also, his wife left him, married another dude, left that dude and remarried him. Which is weird.

Rome

He's got the family values vote locked UP.

PhillyGirl

No different than any of the other from the Right who can't practice what they preach in terms of family values.

The potential Republican opponent will benefit from the fact that his or her name is not Obama. This board is the exception, not the rule.  He's widely unpopular in case you've missed/ignored the polls.

rjs246

Of course he's more popular than Reagan was at this point in his presidency. Polls are neat and all but come on.

Munson

YEah, polling anywhere from 45-55% is "wildly unpopular".

What's funny is a lot of those same polls have him polling better than any of the possible Republican opponents.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

When his approval rating started out in the 65-70 range, and he's now in the 45-50 range, I'd say that's a pretty signifcant drop.  If the economy continues to remain stagnant, he's going to have trouble getting reelected even if the Republicans threw you out as their candidate Munson.
