a lot of barrys "failures" is stemmed from the utter power of the right wing media

the hold limbaugh, beck, etc. have over these people is insane. theyve been building up this stuff from 15 years now and it didnt really wane under bush. they had 9/11, an unpopular war and then a really unpopular president to rally around. it kept them strong and motivated into fighting against the imaginary opponent on the left.

then this black muslim gets into office and he wants to take away all their money, kill old people, and force everyone to go under the same health plan. and la dee da, 1 year later barry looks the fool.

and this is way im not voting anymore. you can never win.

the pubs worst nightmare (other than the results of the 2010 census) is for america to have a successful black president....thus they were never ever gonna go along with barrys all in this together meet me in the middle aisle so we can butt hump idea

thus he should have just crammed shtein down their white throats while he could

and thats the inherent problem about politics. that its not about actually trying to make things better. its always been, always will be about money and money alone. why even bother.

The only hope this country has is hoping the next generation of politicians that's in their 20's now get sick of all the crap just mentioned and when they get into power in 10-15 years, actually take the time to work with one another. Another reason why the younger crowd needs to get out and vote and get some of these old cold war fossils out of office.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

Please don't try and engage in politcal talk with me. Pretty much every post you've made in this thread shows you have no idea what you're talking about. You truly are the CF talking parrot. You read what others have said and try to put it in the bluntest form possible in a lame attempt to sound like you know what you're talking about.

yup

keep having endless discussions worrying and whining about things you dont have any control in and dont have any say in. keep thinking your vote counts for something. buy into what they deal to believe. itll make you go far.

Obama winning NC was pretty much specifically because the young and the minorities actually got out, got registered, and voted. And out numbed the old white bible thumpers.

In about 15 years, we'll see the hippies of the 60's and 70's entering their golden years, and white people won't be the majority in this country anymore. There will be more young "minorities" then young white folk, and more old open minded folk than old white extreme conservatives. One can only hope this brings a balance to the political spectrum that allows the moderates to run the country.

If not, you're right and we're all screwed.

Speaking of Obama, finally moving on the banks. Basically trying to repair what Clinton effed up in 1999.

you're putting way too much faith in the youth of today.  the young, bright political minds of today are the corporate/lobbyist/special interest group whores of tomorrow.  the ones who really want to try and make a difference and work for their constituants are city counselmen and small town mayors.  not because they don't want to go to washington, but because washington doesn't want them or their ideals, principles or morality.

for every young idealist out there with aspirations of "cleaning up politics" there's some senior politician out there waiting to take him under his wing and essentially bring him to the dark side.  and if he wants to try and stand his ground and take the moral high ground, he'll be brushed aside and his credibility ruined.  you don't make it to washington by being honest and keeping all of your campaign promises and fighting the good fight.  you get there by saying the right things in public and doing the wrong things in private.

even the "good guys" in washington had to play dirty pool just to get there.  so about the only way you can really expect to see any change to the way business is being done in washington is to completely ban all $ lobbying and also make it illegal for any elected official to profit from gov't actions (dick cheney/haliburton for example).  no corporation or special interest group should have a louder voice than any registered voter.  personally, i think if a person is elected to such an important position of public service, they should have to immediately cut ties with any private business venture they are involved in.  anything less creates a dramatic conflict of interests when an individual's political motives and decisions can be influenced by their personal business affiliations.

i've always found it to be ridiculous that the upper echelons of our gov't make the salaries that they do, have a practically endless personal expense account (funded by tax dollars) and yet for some reason, can still take money from lobbyists and can get their own companies (or companies they have strong business ties with) high dollar gov't contracts.

of course, all of that stuff will never go away because the only people who could vote something like that into law are the same people who are making millions of dollars a year by doing absolutely nothing.

Munson

I completely agree. The ones that start out with wanting to change things either stay small time because of reasons you listed or get corrupted before they get to the big time.

But with a growing "minority" population that will soon NOT be the minority, and a rise in atheism/agnosticism in the kids that are turning 18 year after year, the Republican party is losing its base. That alone will be enough to either force the GOP to become more moderate, or disappear completely. We can just hope that such a shift in American politics brings with it a shift in the politicians themselves.

But I also fear more and more young kids taking the stance Todd has taken...that it's just not worth it to try/care.
