I wonder if this will make him less like to use military force than previously

I doubt it. He's being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize at the same time as he is trying to decide whether to expand the war in Afghanistan.

If he's smart, he'll turn the premature award down and say he has much yet to accomplish.

What I'm hoping for is that someone will take a long hard look at some Right Wing web sites and share their talking points with us. Any volunteers?

mpmcgraw

The award was a political move and pretty ballsy too.  I like it.

You don't need to go on any right wing websites to know that giving Obama this award is an absolute joke, especially given the situation in Afghanistan.

It was the committee's way of showing its appreciation of getting Bush out of office.. The fact that people are actually supportive of the move shows how far up Obama's ass you really are.

Susquehanna Birder

It's nice advance on the reward for his trying to bring the U.S. in line with European progressivism.

ATV

You're correct. One doesn't need to go on any right wing websites when there's already someone out there to do it for you...

while i agree that giving the award to obama is a joke, i disagree that they are giving it to him as a "thank you" for "getting" bush out of office.  bush was done anyway.  would they have given the award to mccain if he won the election over barry?

the decision to give him the award is strictly an attempt to persuade him to not send more troops to afghanistan.

if he accepts the award and then sends even 1 more soldier oversees he's going to piss off a lot of his supporters.  and the right will have a field day with it and will be screaming hypocracy with it from dusk til dawn.

but even if he refuses the award, he's still going to alienate his supporters who are against the war because it could be perceived that he does plan on sending more troops to afghanistan.  and the right could put some twisted spin on it and say that obama is declining the award so he can thumb his nose at the world for not giving chicago the olympics.....or some stupid shtein like that.

i think barry's between a rock and hard place right now because the decision to accept or decline the award is strictly a pr/image thing but he's going to be graded on it almost the same as he is with his policies and agenda.

mpmcgraw

Personally I think they are doing this not because of Afghanistan at all, but because they genuinely support Obama's policy.

I don't think they are trying to influence Obama at all.

whether or not you think there's an alterior motive in giving him the award, it's still hard to deny that he's got a tough decision to make that has nothing to do with actual policy but is going to be scrutinized as if it were.

mpmcgraw

bowzer: And why didn't Reagan win a Nobel Peace Prize?

god:  Well he kind of brought the world a lot closer to nuclear annihilation than it needed to be.  That probably had something to do with it.

bowzer: Hoydas.

It's not a thank you to him.. moreso a thank you to America for electing him and not McCain.  Obviously if McCain was elected, it would show we were sticking with the Bush doctrine with regards to international diplomacy.

As for AIV, you are a farging joke.  People cheered us not getting the Olympics.. Who gives a farg?  Is that really a big loss for the United states?  It sounds like a huge head ache for me.

It's ironic too because you were probably one of those loony liberals that was rooting for Iraq to get worst and worst and for us to lose because it would prove your point.  Pot... kettle... black

Given his posts, it's a pretty good assumption.

Unlike the assumptions made by a good number of posters on here that conservatives are racist against Obama...

Like I said.. pot.. kettle.. black.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds
