Anyway, it's hard not to be impressed by Obama. He covered a lot of ground without a lot of detail (of course, how much detail can you really go in to about Education, Energy, Tax Reform, Social Security Reform, Healthcare Reform, the Iraq War, the Afghanistan War, expanding Veteran benefits etc in an hour) but he sure knows how to put a speech together.

I had no idea who Bobby Jindal was....but that response came across horribly and insincere. Maybe Im in the minority...but it seemed like more spew from the Republicans similar to what was heard in the campaign trail.

He's ethnic.  And young.  He's the only one they've got who doesn't look like the fat old white racist republican base.   And they are realizing that they aren't gonna make hay on the white man's rights anymore, because that base is dying and being cross bred out of existence.  So they're pimping this guy up.

Pet projects for Democratic districts = PORK

The good news is that the more of these pork-laden spending bills the Democrats pass, the faster a 3rd party might actually get some traction against these iceholes.

PORK is from both sides of the aisle.  I've never made it a partisan issue.

Let's not forget that the original TARP bill had no pork in it until it went to the senate, where the Republicans added some 300 pages of it.

Obama tax cuts take effect


WASHINGTON (AFP) — US President Barack Obama on Saturday directed employers to begin implementing tax cuts that he said will affect 95 percent of working families.

"I'm pleased to announce that this morning, the Treasury Department began directing employers to reduce the amount of taxes withheld from paychecks," Obama said in his weekly radio and Internet address.

"Meaning that by April 1st, a typical family will begin taking home at least 65 dollars more every month. Never before in our history has a tax cut taken effect faster or gone to so many hardworking Americans."

Obama said the huge 787-billion-dollar economic stimulus plan that he signed into law Tuesday was "important" but "only a first step on the road to economic recovery."

He plans to convene Monday a "fiscal responsibility summit" of experts on how to slash the trillion-dollar deficit, and on Tuesday he is to address a joint session of Congress to speak to the nation about "our urgent national priorities."

"On Thursday, I'll release a budget that's sober in its assessments, honest in its accounting, and lays out in detail my strategy for investing in what we need, cutting what we don't, and restoring fiscal discipline," he added.[\quote]

I read summaries and reactions and such, and I am pretty glad I didn't watch it.

The Republicans are blowing the opportunity to redefine the party.  Turning Jindal into a good ol' boy with different-colored skin is not going to get the job done.
