Running sucks and at times does more harm than good.

I went on a bender last weekend with the race then the MMRBQ, woke up Monday morning and figured it was time to start back at the gym. Started out with a brisk walk and some light exercise around my neighborhood then went back to the gym Tuesday. Got 5 workouts in last week and honestly feel like a new person. I really can't wait to go back.

Yeah, I've been hitting the gym more regularly in the last couple of weeks as things have slowed down with work and coaching is done for the year, and have felt great. Which is exactly what inspired me to get out and run today. farg that. I'll be running again on Tuesday though goddammit. Vanity is a motherfarger. Maybe I'll start swimming at the Y instead.

Coaching?

I had an epiphany on monday that I can't shake and that's that I'm miserable when I'm not working out. Even 20 minutes of cardio makes a world of difference. I love working out but I hate going to the gym, it's too crowded and its an extra stop on my way home. I wish I had another option aside from running. I like Sunny's idea of a p90x type of workout but I don't have enough room in my house to do something like that. I'm done with the heavy lifting which kills my joints and my back. I'm doing natural movements and high reps. Have to drop my gym ego of lifting heavier than the guy next to me the second I walk through the door. That's the hardest part.

Don't you have a new basement in your new house?  P90X and Insanity-type workouts can be done in roughly 5 soft area.

yeah but I don't have a TV to put down there

That's your obstacle?  Go on craigslist and buy a 26" tube tv for $20 and hook up a dvd player to it.

Coaching?

Yes. Lacrosse. I'm much better at showing than telling so coaching keeps me really active.

Look at it this way. A great majority of the people who work out have the exact same mentality. As a result, they're always competing against each other and not themselves, so that's when they do shtein wrong and get hurt. No matter what, there will always be someone who is a hell of a lot stronger than you, and looks a hell of a lot better than you. So just do everything right and throw numbers out the window.

Or I could just pop it into my computer. The wheels are in motion.

My wife, who's a rock, went to a seminar a couple of weeks ago and learned about something she said would be impossible. So, of course, I tried it. I'll share, but as usual, your mileage may vary.

If you want to drop weight and clean out your system quickly, eat watermelon (and that's it) for three days. Actually, you can have watermelon (including the seeds), water, lemon and ginger....but really, it's the watermelon. It's supposed to clean your system, and flush out your kidneys and liver.

I did it as a goof, but I was pretty surprised by the results and will absolutely do it again. By the end of the first day, I had a massive headache, which I assume was from a lack of caffeine or overall detox. By the morning, I felt pretty good. By the third day, I felt absolutely awesome. I popped out of bed at 5am, completely energized and accomplished a ton over the course of the day. Was the best I had felt in years. I weighed in, and by the beginning of the third day, I was down 8 pounds which I assumed was largely water weight...but it's been over a week since then and it still hasn't come back.

I went to the gym the following day and figured I'd take it easy since I hadn't had any protein for days. But I put the weight on the bar and it felt like nothing. I was working chest and back, and for every exercise, I was able to either double the reps or add 30-40 pounds. It was crazy.

But it worked as advertised for me, in that I dropped a few pounds and it eliminated all cravings for crap.

Since watermelon isn't magic, I can only assume that I uncovered that I've been eating something that I must have a negative reaction to. In my case, I think I might not do well with wheat. So, I've been reintroducing foods other than wheat, and I seem to be maintaining the benefits.

Anyway, if you want to kickstart a diet or something, it's not a bad way to get into it, because it takes the guesswork out of your hands. Watermelon or nothing, bitch.

That sounds awful but also sort of hilarious and if it works more than a little mind-blowing.
