I think we can all assume that I hit the rowing machine a little differently than Estelle Getty up there, but boy did I set myself up for a little harassment. Yikes.

I hope so...especially being that mpmcgraw is her trainer

mpmcgraw

unless you are training to run I'd put a ton of weight on the machine and then do the row 5-10 times.  You pretty much get as much out of it unless you are trying to build stamina.

people with gay kids are really confrontational

I used the rowing machine too. I'd blast out about 10 minutes at a fast pace after my ellipitcal session. Certainly gets the blood going thats for sure.

in semi-related news.....much like in sports, being 33 makes me an "old man" because being a marine really is a young man's thing.  for the most part though, i've kept myself in decent shape despite the fact that my knees are shot after having a couple surgeries on them along with spending 6yrs in the grunts which basically meant i walked every farging where i went and carried all my shtein in my pack.  so as a result, the wear and tear has taken it's toll on my knees, legs, back, etc, etc and there are some days where getting out of bed is painful.  so a bunch of the younger marines.....like 18-22 yrs old decided to play football after work.  i went with and absolutely wore them the farg out on the field.  they were taking turns trying to cover me when i was on offense and they couldn't.  they were trying anything to out run me when i was on defense and they couldn't.  2 hours later they were worn out so i called them a bunch of hoydas for letting an old man break them down so much and then to rub it in, i semi-sprinted to my car.

then i got in my car and i cried because my entire farging body was aching from head to toe.  stopped at the drug store on my way home and bought the economy size tub of icy hot, a heat pad and some motrin to ease the swelling in my knees.  if those bastiches would have wanted to try and run one more play i'm pretty sure i would have died on the spot.

i'm seriously in a lot of pain right now.  but it was worth it.

turns out, the back pain i've been experiencing over the last couple of years is the result of a bulging disk in my lower back.  guess i should have gotten it looked at sooner but i was always able to suck it up.  i've also started experiencing numbness in my left foot and calf whenever i do distance running.  it starts out tingling in my toes, as if my foot were asleep and then just gets numb.  after that, is massive throbbing and pain in my foot and lower leg.  this resulted in me not being able to run 3 miles yesterday for our annual physical fitness test in the required time.  today, my i can feel my knees grinding together whenever i move.  it's like opening and closing a rusty door hinge.  and my back is tighter than todd's wallet.  i guess it's time for me to seek medical treatment.  farg.

Sounds like a lower disc.  I had the same symptoms about 5-6 years ago.  Turned out to be a bulging L-5 disc.  Had surgery, which pretty much got rid of the pain. but I still have occasional tingling in the left foot.  Get it checked out - the surgery for me (microdiscectomy) was nearly instant relief, and that may not be needed in your case.

i started this 7AM boot camp thing this morning.  mostly just running and calisthenics (sp?) and pushups and whatnot with a little weight training thrown in and wow do i feel like a bitch.

I have a horrible knot in my shoulder apparently.  hurts like hell, the lady friend tried to get it out and she couldn't.  i guess its ice and hot packs wrapped around my shoulder for a few days.  farging annoying.

Anyone ever do a 5x5 routine? I'm thinking of giving one a shot to shake things up a bit.

Never heard of it so I'm guessing not.

I did, however, just get an email offering to sell me pictures of myself finishing the 10k that I ran. It also allowed me to preview these pictures. In one of them I am trucking, legs and fists pumping and right next to me is this dude who has to be like 80 years old. The effect is that the pictures looks like I am working my ass off to keep up with someone who might die from old age a literally any second. Good stuff.
