QuoteRunyan: Play To The Whistle

Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce was injured in a game last year against the Eagles when tight end Stephen Spach wrestled him to the ground and twisted Pierce's leg. Pierce was unhappy that Spach "played to the whistle" and insists he will be looking for revenge on Sunday.

Earlier this week, Pierce specifically mentioned offensive tackle Jon Runyan, and Runyan was asked about his approach to "playing to the whistle."

"That's the way you're supposed to play the game," said Runyan. "If you don't play to the whistle, sometimes you can end up geting hurt, like he did. Don't they tell you that in high school? Play to the whistle? A lot of people forget that."

I'm not putting much hope in that.  Until I see him in a boot and on crutches on the sidelines I refuse to get excited about it.  Of course, some no name scrub would probably come in and tourch us for 120 yrds and a couple of scores.

Shockey was limping pretty bad during the Colts game.  What a suprise, he's dinged up again.

Unfortunately for the Giants there isn't a no name scrub to come in and torch the Eagles as a replacement.......for some unexplained reason the team entered the season with only two TE's on the roster.

Given the probabilty that Shockey sooner or later was going to get banged up and miss some time I for one have no idea what the thinking could have been to make that sort of personel decision.

Shiancoe (#2 TE) couldn't torch a secondary if he was holding a gallon of gas in one hand and a Zippo  in the other.......

General_Failure

So he's going to torch the Eagles secondary?

If anything it would be a tie until we see the Eagles OTs go against Osi and Strahan. I think the Eagles clearly get the edge here...

Um, no. The Giants' DEs are outstanding. The Eagles' OTs are good, but if anything it's a push or the Giants have an edge. No chance the Eagles 'clearly get the edge' in that matchup.

Obviously the Eagles' OL is better than the Giants' OL, but the ends of their DL are top notch.

The GINTS OL is a better run blocking OL....the eagles OL is probably a better protection OL, based on the number of times they throw the ball....Id call it close to even, regardless.

Did I just read that Antonio "my vagina hurts" Pierce was bitching because someone actually played to the whistle whereas he didn't?

I hope Runyan catches AP standing by a pile and knocks him out.

Man, I can't sleep so I'm watching the Indy/New York reply, and the main impression I come away with for the Giants, is that Jacobs is one tough running s.o.b. It looks like they have the one two punch everyone thought they were going to have with Dayne.

Yes.  He said he is going to exact revenge on every Eagles player that was on the field at the time.

Someone remarked that McMahon, Moats, Artis Hicks, Adrien Clarke, and L.J. are all scurred.

He's a beast.  There are TE's in the league smaller than him.  He's also fast.  Trouble is, he's rough.  Fumbles and drops passes, needs to work on getting his center of gravity down when he runs.  But no doubt, he's a weapon.  He's got another year of playing to go before he really blossoms, in my ignorant opinion.

Good to see you back Gene.  Tough game with the Giants, no doubt.

Eagles win this game 23-20 with a long late FG from Akers and a miss by Feely to tie

Giants are sure talking a lot .... from todays NY Post :

DE Osi Umenyiora led the NFC in sacks last season but didn't get one last week. "I got shut out," Umenyiora said. "Is that going to happen again this week? I seriously doubt it."

I agree, he's so tall that he needs to get his shoulders down and not run so straight up. If he can do that there isn't a linebacker in the league that he couldn't knock backwards.
