Davis could work as a 3rd-down/goal line power runner.

Davis offers no insurance for Westbrook getting hurt.  He'd be done 2 weeks afterward.

if he had 12 TDs last year, he's gotta have something left.

i'll take anything at RB, just to possibly squeeze mahe off of the roster.

still think the Eagles would be more interested in Duckett, as long as he knows hes a #2 back.

RB Davis In For A Physical
August 21, 2006
By DAVE SPADARO

Veteran running back Stephen Davis is at the NovaCare Complex on Monday, taking a physical for the Eagles. Davis has played 10 seasons in the NFL for Washington and Carolina and has gained 7,875 yards with 65 rushing touchdowns in his career.
Three times in his career Davis has scored 10 or more touchdowns, including 12 last season with Carolina in only 13 games. With the Panthers in 2005, Davis gained 549 yards on 180 carries.

His season was cut short by a knee injury, however, and Davis underwent microfracture surgery to repair the damage in his right knee. He has reportedly been given a clean bill of health by noted physician Dr. James Andrews.

He is in Philadelphia for a physical and a look-see. PhiladelphiaEagles.com will update the story throughout the day.

Source: Birds meeting with Stephen Davis

By LES BOWEN
bowenl@phillynews.com

Free-agent running back Stephen Davis arrived in Philadelphia late last night and will meet with Eagles officials today, a team source said.

The Eagles' running-back situation has been unsettled, with Brian Westbrook suffering a sprained foot after just six carries in the first preseason game, Ryan Moats and Bruce Perry coping with injuries and fumble problems, and Correll Buckhalter still facing long odds as he attempts to recover from missing three of the last four seasons to knee injuries.

The Birds' interest in Davis is a little unexpected, in that he is 32 and didn't show much last season for the Carolina Panthers - 549 yards on 180 carries, 3.1 yards per carry. He did score 12 touchdowns for the Panthers, who released him after the season.

While Davis is unlikely to reprise any of his four 1,000-yard seasons, he might be able to pitch in here and there, as Dorsey Levens has done for previous Eagles teams. At 6-foot, 230, Davis would provide the size many fans worry the Eagles are missing in their backfield, particularly if Buckhalter isn't a factor.

One complication might be that the Birds apparently aren't the only team interested. In the wake of the shoulder injury suffered by Clinton Portis, Davis apparently has been contacted by the Washington taterskins, for whom he played his first seven NFL seasons. The complicated terms of his release by Carolina - Davis was "released injured," which means he gets some of the money he was owed for this season, unless he signs with another team and gets cut - probably mean Davis is looking for something more substantial than a 1-year, nonguaranteed veteran minimum contract. He would probably want incentives written into the deal.

Still, the team source said the Eagles' interest in Davis is substantial. His best season came in 2003, the year the Panthers upset the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game. Davis rumbled for 1,444 yards on 318 carries that year. Davis was very familiar to Birds fans even before that, as the taterskins' fulcrum for several years. In 1999, he gained 1,405 yards for Washington, on 290 carries (4.8-yard average) and ran for an amazing 17 touchdowns.

So, are you saying that Davis is at the NovaCare center?
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

My buddy saw him at Philly International, and hit him in the face with a warm turd. "Thanks for 2003 icehole! Get out of Philly!"

Given the state of the Eagles backs and concerns around future health this is a good move...doesn't hurt to look or keep your options open.

Exactly. I also think that the Eagles are looking ahead to the draft a little and realizing that for the first time in years they probably aren't going to have any supplemental picks and are loathe to trade away picks for role-players like Lelie and Duckett. There might be something smart about that plan in the long run, but RIGHT NOW those two players can help this team (certainly more than Stephen Davis) and their lack of effort in acquiring either is frustrating.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

The Eagles strategy with running backs is brilliant.

If you have 4 or 5 injury prone backs who are probably all at least slightly above average when healthy, one of them is bound to be healthy every week.

Brilliant.
