watched the first episode of Southland on TNT just now. Its a really good show.

Maybe the voices aren't real, but, they've got some pretty good ideas...

lol @ nbc for giving that show up

we have reached beyond epic proportions of incompetence with nbc. its like 10 different matt millens have come in and run the network since the late 90's, then they brought in donald sterling midway through to oversee everything and do all the hiring.

i guess the good thing is their awfulness gave the office a second season (pretty much their lone success story of the decade) and has let shows like 30 rock, chuck and friday night lights hang around despite awful ratings.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

PhillyGirl

Didn't they cancel Friday Night Lights?

And I can't believe they gave up on this show. Its fantastic. Its exactly what they NEED at the 10pm slot they filled with that ridiculous Leno show.

fnl has been in a split deal between directv and nbc, where directv gets first dibs on the show and nbc airs it later. the numbers were even worse last year for nbc, but directv was pleased with the results it got. since the nbc pays so little and the entire thing is negligible to them, they agreed picked up the show for 2 more years, which will be the final two seasons. its airing now on directv, supposed to be on nbc in the summer but maybe sooner with the 10pm hole. i watch them online. im a dork.

they didnt give up on southland per se. they didnt like the direction it was going in season two (really dark), didnt think it would play at 9pm, and cut their loses after eight episodes were filmed. this decision was made in the fall, right when the leno thing started, when they assumed that leno would be on all year. lucky for southland its produced by warner brothers, which happens to own tnt. so they found a home, and if this run goes well, will get picked up for a new season.

leno is a snake, and an unfunny one at that, and hopefully everyone sees it now. the reason he has canceled was because the affiliates were getting destroyed at 1100. nbc doesnt care about that, they were happy with what they were making off the show. really, its pretty obvious part of the reason leno hung around was to wait and see if conan would fail and if his show would fail. and low and behold, 7 months later he gets his stupid show back. farg you jay. you suck.

I never liked Leno. Ever. I was a Letterman fan growing up and I love Conan.

his audience is old and republican. old people and republicans consume a lot of media and watch a lot of tv. more so than young people, who love conan, but dont really watch him on a consistent basis.

thats fine, thats obvious. why nbc gave conan the tonight show in the first place was beyond me. good thing is hes gonna go to fox and is gonna be able to do whatever he wants. he toned his show down to fit into the 1130 mold and to appease nbc. if he goes to fox they are gonna give carte blanche to be conan and hes gonna do a show possibly even more crazy than he did at 1230. which would be great.

the thing that sucks with leno is that he just has the worst delivery of any comedian i've ever seen.  he's terrible.  but at the same time, i find many aspects of the show to be very entertaining as long as leno doesn't have a lot of verbage to add.

Seabiscuit36

this has another movie to be written about the changeover of the latenight show to happen again.  Southland imo was a good show, not great, but it got me interested, and they really did a great job developing characters by the time the first hiatus hit.  From everything i've read, TNT is completely willing to let them go the full tilt on dark story's and wants it more or less.  They can only benefit from this deal.
