I've never tried cigars, and I don't think I ever will. Well, maybe someday.

Scotch, on the other hand, is a favorite of mine. Two of my faves:

There are glens in Scotland. I guess either it's a true Scottish part of the name or a marketing deal to lend an air of authenticity to the product.

JW Black is pretty nice for a blended whiskey. Red will even do in a pinch.

Nice choices, Sus.  I'm big on the lowlands scotch.  Like the smoky, peaty flavor.
Anyone but Reid.

I tried some of the Highland variety, and I found it a bit medicinal. I found I like the special finishes like the Balvenie and the Glenmorangie. The Macallan is also pretty good, because they finish in sherry casks (I think).

I don't smoke and I'm not a fan of whiskey or scotch.

Dont know much about cigars, but I do enjoy them.  I am a single Malt fan.  I picked up a new one tonight... 10 year Talisker from Skye.   Very potent.  Good stuff so far.

I haven't ventured into the scotchs yet...I'm sure in due time I will.

Cigars...I like cigars every once in a while...but I don't smoke them right. I always have a buildup of aftersmoke shtein and I'm always looking to spit it out. (Bring on all of the witty, unexpected homo cracks)......it feels as though I'm using chewing tabacco. Are you supposed to swallow that shtein? I don't inhale...I just let the smoke linger and then let it out. Am I doing it correctly?

Are u talking about saliva or actual pieces of tobacco from the cigar.  i don't ccare who you are if your smoking anything, your going to get some saliva build-up.  thats why it is nice to have a drink when you smoke.  i smoke cigs, but i need some sort of drink when i smoke.  If you have prob's with actual pieces of the tobacco in your mouth, then maybe try a cigar punch over a cigar cutter:

Yes normally you don't want to inhale cigar tobacco.  unless your chuck norris of course. just draw it in and exhale. ur doing it right HB.   :paranoid

I agree completely on the cigar punch over cutter, but I think the dominican cigars are rapidly catching up to Havana, and much of the pleasure of the Cuban cigars is their illicit embargoed nature. >:D

Actually smoked a few of the Havana Cohibas in Tulum Mexico a couple of weeks ago. Damn good.

Anyway, for scotch try Laphroaig scotch, the ten year is relatively affordable and very tasty if you like smoky and peaty.  Stay away from the sherry cask stuff, if you ask me, but to each his or her own.

For highlands I like Dalwhinnie scotch. More clean and better on the rocks, than neat with a water back which is how I prefer the Island (Islay) malts. Just IMHO.

One thing to be aware of about Johnnie Walker, they own several of the single malt distillers and others sell their extra whiskey to them.

So when you are drinking the JW red or black you are drinking different grades of leftover single malts mixed together which brings forth consistency but not the uniqueness of single malts.

A similar practice occurs with big wineries.  They buy extra grapes from the smaller vineyards to blend into their wine.
