Now he takes the 3rd strike and starts to walk toward the dugout before the ump even rings him up.

The increase in K's looking has also had a major increase in his OBP.  I am willing to make that trade off.

I'd like an increase in OBP because he is being smart at the plate and not swinging at crappy pitches. So youre willing to take a higher OBP at the cost of him suckin ass with RISP?
He also increased his OBP last year, and I am pretty sure he was one of our best hitters with RISP last year.

RISP is largely a stat of chance.  Throughout his career Burrell has actually done well in that situation.

Personally I am sick of the hypocrits.  Howard strikes out more than Burrell, is worse than Burrell with RISP, shows bad plate discipline, and cant hit with the bases loaded.

Yes Howard has much more power than Burrell, but why dont we whine about those things?  Because he makes less than 500k like the rest of us blue collared guys?  Because women dont slober over him like they do Burrell?

I find it funny that the same people who relentlessly bash Burrell think Rowand is a good player.

Howard has played exactly 1 full season now in Philly.  Unlike Burrell, he seems to have the ability to improve rather than to regress.

Plus he leads the National League in Home Runs & is tied for 4th in RBI's at this point.  What more do you want, dude?

mpmcgraw

Since 03 Burrell has improved every year.

I want more of those homeruns to come with RISP, less strikeouts, better plate discipline, and better fielding.

Same things everyone is asking from Burrell.  Howard isnt a rookie anymore, I dont think expecting improvement in a couple of those categories is unreasonable.

Rome

Since 2003 Burrell has improved?

Dude, wtf are you smoking?

mpmcgraw

Look at the numbers.

He was better in 04 than 03, much better in 05 than 04, and is on pace for a better year this year than 05.

The past two years he has had similiar years to 02, so that is probably his ceiling.  I dont blame him for Wade's stupidity.

PoopyfaceMcGee

It would be nice if a guy nicknamed "the bat" could hit about .275 or so.

Rome

He had two outstanding years (2002 & 2005).  The rest have been mediocre to outright awful.

That's not exactly an upward curve.  In fact, he's been a yoyo.

mpmcgraw

He will probably finish the year around there.  I am OK with it if he continues to walk at a nice rate.

I think of him as a lesser version of Adam Dunn.

You are right, but he is still on pace to have a better year this year than 05.  His shortcomings are just being magnified because the team is horrible overall this year.

He took a huge step back in 03 no doubt.  But in 04 he took baby steps back towards 02 and in 05 he almost matched 02's production.  If his feet dont fall apart this year he will do it again.

mpmcgraw

I am not saying that he improved on 02 if that is what you took it as.

Howard strikes out more than Burrell

because he actually swings the bat

is worse than Burrell with RISP

and he hits better than burrell with risp and two out...a truly clutch situation...and is better than burrell in late game situations...burrell is an absolute dog when you need a big hit...hes great at 3 run hr's in blowouts...but when you need a clutch hit strikes out looking...which is absolutely inexcusable in those situations

Yes Howard has much more power than Burrell

and howard hits almost 30 points higher scores more runs more extra base hits better sluggin % and on and on and on...so what is your point?

and the guy has played one full year in the majors....burrell has played almost seven and its the same old garbage

Since 03 Burrell has improved every year.

hes better now than he was in 03 sure....but hes not better now than he was last year...so what exactly are you saying...basically that hes better this year than in the worst year he ever had?...hooray!!

i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

mpmcgraw

Actually he is not as good as 02, but better than last year.   :-D

mpmcgraw

Are we talking about the same sport?

Last time I checked runs scored in the 2nd count as much as runs scored in the 8th.

I suppose you would want Big Papi over Pujols then eh?

Yes.  Is that a trick question?
