Too bad one of those questionable hearts/attitudes went with him to New York....  :)

Burrell, Lieberthal, Rollins.  There's your remaining three.  The more guys that leave and speak up, the more obvious it becomes that these guys are the problem...
Rollins is not a problem, he's just stuck being a life-long Phillie.  He needs a better morale on the team to break him out of his funk.

Rollins isn't going anywhere, but you don't question his offense at all?  Most leadoff hitters see 3 pitches and work a 2-1 count.  JRoll has a flyout and a popout by that point....

he definitely needs to work on patience at the plate (dare I say, like ex#53).   He could be so much more effective if he didnt try to be a HR-hitting SS, every time he steps up.

The Phillies suck.

The Phillies will suck next year.

Close thread.

End.

Rollins sucks. How can you not question his effort when he has shown ZERO willingness to learn anything about hitting? He tries to be the world's smallest popfly hitter. Yay! He gets lots of triples and more homeruns than most leadoff men! Wouldn't it be slightly more useful if he was EVER on base for the big bats? He has shown no ability to learn and yet he gets a free pass from everyone. Give me a break.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Let them eat bootstraps.

I disagree about Rollins.

i dont. they are all farg faces as far as i am concerned.

the only 4 that are not, but could go to the dark side are utley, rowand, howard, and hamels. and even howard is leaning that way more than i would like to see.

do not overvalue these "untouchables" the same way phillies management has.

I meant Rollins' attitude.

Ed's post sounded like he was lumping Rollins and his attitude with Burrell and Lieberthal.
"Oh, yeah. They'll still boo. They have to. They're born to boo. Just now, they'll only boo with two Os instead of like four." - Larry Andersen

I don't see where Rollins has a lousy attitude either.

Lieberthal and Burrell are straight-up Hoydas.  I can't stomach either one of them

J-Roll is different, though.  He might be pigheaded but I don't see where he's a quitter like Punch & Judy.

Plus he clearly doesn't belong at the top of the order.  He'd be a nice 7 or 8 hitter and it's not his fault he's been ridiculously miscast as a leadoff man all these years.

I literally get frustrated to the point of anger that they keep putting him in the leadoff spot.  How is it possible that every person who has at least a passing interest in Phillies baseball (except the management) thinks he shouldn't be there but he goes out at the top of the lineup everyday?

Rome

I can understand why.  They don't have anyone better to put there.

Plus I think Rollins believes he's a great leadoff hitter and I think that thought has been placed in his head and continually reinforced by the organization since the day he got there.

We see it for what it is.  The Phillies organization from the top man down is utterly clueless.  That's why the moves of the past two days are so shocking to me.  It's like Gillick was the only man with a clue in the room and stood up and said either I do things my way or I walk.

The Phillies couldn't afford to have Gillick walk on them, so the "nucleus" was effectively dismantled.  Too bad the one player who should have stayed ended up leaving.

Who?  Abreu?  I have no problem with him leaving.

Not because of attitude or anything like that.  I just happen to think that he's begun the downside of his career, and it could be a quick slide.

14 home runs since the HR Derby win.  Eight this year.  None since... June?

Yes, his OBP numbers are still excellent.  However, his SLG percentage has been mediocre all season, and his OPS numbers have dropped mightily since May.

He would still be a good leadoff hitter.  I'm not so sure he's a great #3 guy.  I'm interested to see where he slots in for the Yanks.  I'd say... 7th.

not only that Rome, but when you get a 30+ game hitting streak, somehow you belong at the top of the order and think it can happen again--please.

Geo, I think you'll see Abreu have some great years with the Yanks, bank on it. Play for this town and the boo-ing that goes on year in and year out with every bad play, bad ground out and strike out and see if you would care.

The Yanks boo no doubt, but they have so much more to cheer for, and I think Abreu feels the energy much much more and excels

We'll see.  It could happen, but I don't think so.  I'm not so sure it's mental- it could be a physical deterioration of his skills.

And Yankee fans can be even more vicious than Phillies fans.  Just ask A-Rod.

Did anyone (IGY?) happen to catch that Joe Conklin bit on WIP today about the trade deadline? He was doing Harry's voice and had it set like a car dealership firesale commercial. farging hilarious. Especially the ending when he gives the "fine print" and then adds an Anheuser Busch type closing where he says "Remember Scott Rolen? St. Louis Missouri."

mpmcgraw

nice power numbers, ability to draw lots of walks, good looking, notorious for getting lots of tail=cancer

being a horrible player and not being able to see a metal bar right in front of your face=hero, right attitude, good for team

Why do I even wonder why we never win anything.
