you wait until the trade deadline, if the team's out of it, you trade Abreu, if they are in it, you add pieces.

you know, the walks are great and everything.  but he doesn't want to lead off, he's a 3 hitter.  sometimes, a 3 hitter has to take that 2-0 pitch down the middle and hit the farging ball instead of taking it just so everyone can say he "sees pitches".  you don't want to hit leadoff?  don't take every AB like it then.
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

the amazing thing about abreus slump is he still as good at bats all the time and manages to draw a walk or two per game. i think hes reached base in every game this season. the guy is something else. but he doesnt run into walls on defense, so trade him for pitching.

Yes, that is the good thing about Bobby A. When he isn't hitting (I think he's like 6-38 in May with 0 XBH's) he still sees a ton of pitches and works the walk.

Speaking of the trade thing...

I was listening to some dopes on the radio while on my to and from work today...and I have to ask this. Do people watch baseball?

I heard about 20 people say trade him for Carl Pavano. PAVANO BLOWS!

Then I hear this other dickbag say that they should trade him and Dellucci to NY for Aaron Small and prospects just because they will get the $13-15M off of the books.

Ignorant people make me mad.

Any of those trade scenarios would make Ed Wade look like a freaking genius.

Abreu is currently the Phils' best overall hitter (though Utley is a closer 2nd, and may eventually pass him).  No one else has the combination of average, power and speed.  Losing his bat would decimate the lineup, in my opinion.

Abreu is also signed through next season, with a team option for 2008.  If traded, they'd better get a heck of a lot more that Carl Pavano or Aaron Small.

On the pink bats MLB is using tomorrow:

Quote...the Phillies' shipment arrived at the ballpark yesterday.

As expected, they drew some peculiar reactions. Third baseman David Bell looked over his two very pink Louisville Sluggers and seemed jealous that Chase Utley's bats are more of a cream color.

"It's a nice idea," Bell said. "I'll try one out in BP."

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Is anyone watching the game?  For some reason it isn't on in Lancaster tonight.

People from Lancaster losers. Duh.

Lieber is perfect through 5. The other dude is shutting the Phillies down pretty easily.

I am. Just tuned in. Leiber is throwing a no-hitter? Something must be up.....

Perfect game thus far.  Lieber is on fire.  Phillies bats are really struggling though.   :boom

Bell doubles to left, Howard scores. 1-0 Bums.

Man, Bell is nails lately with guys in scoring position.

Lieber is in a groove. His delivery is the same every pitch, and he is locating great. I'm starting to get seriously excited about this team. If Hamels continues to play like he did last night, and the rest of the rotation does stink the place up, this team is going places*.

*I still won't believe until I see it however.

I put the game on for the first time today, and 9.3 seconds later Dunn breaks up the perfect game.

I blame Scott Graham.  He went down the list of infielders that wanted the ball hit to them in these situtions.  "Bell wants it, Utley wants it,  ROLLINS WANTS IT, I  don't know about Howard."
