If you have written them off then what is the big deal if they lose every game?

PhillyGirl

Those who have written them off, I expect you won't be excited or eager to watch when they DO start playing well?

It seems pretty obvious that this first week is a prime example of Murphy's Law acting in full force.

Pretty lousy starting pitching, average hitting except with RISP in which they've been dreadful, and piss poor defense = 1-6 record.

All three areas will absolutely improve before too long.

What concerns me is if they continue to dilly dally in terms of wins and losses and continue to play sloppy, the other teams in the division will get too far out in front of them to be caught.

It doesn't make any difference to me anyway.  I'll still watch nearly every game.  I'll be delighted when they win and pissed off when they lose.  Same old, same old...

He should be protecting Howard by hitting 6th.  Howard should be 5th.  Utley should be 2nd.  Utley is not a cleanup hitter or a #5 hitter.  Howard is hitting too low in the order and has no protection behind him....

I was going to suggest this lineup change a few days ago, then Rowand starting hitting so I figured I'd hold off. But couldn't agree more.

I also agree that Howard is hitting way too far down in the lineup.

I've been telling my friends that.  That guy should be no lower than 4th with his power.  Bump Abreu.  Howard is the future!
When you're riding in a time machine way far into the future, don't stick your elbow out the window, or it'll turn into a fossil.

i havent written them off.

but it's becoming clear that they arent as good as last season. and all you heard was this "one game from the playoffs" mantra...yet there wasnt anything done to improve the pitching, and without padilla and wagner...it's a weaker staff.

the offensive moves cancel each other out. thome barely played so he was already gone, and howard was already there. lofton hit .335 last season in 110 games, rowand his .305 last season...so it's a wash.

the may have improved the bench. but that remains to be seen.

it's not me that has written off the phils. it's the phils that have written off themselves, by not taking any major steps to improve the weaknesses of last season.

lmfao...after one week, you have absolutely no way to know that. NONE.

right now its the carry over optimism of spring training that i have every year reagrdless of how good i think they are that gets me upset...but after the start theyve had and as they continue to prove they arent playoff caliber my care factor gets less and less...

Those who have written them off, I expect you won't be excited or eager to watch when they DO start playing well?

what does this mean...if you dont think they are good enough now to make the playoffs you arent allowed to cheer for them if they do?

1-6

Last year they started 1-3, but were 3-4 after seven.

2004, started 1-6.

It's not over by a long shot, but I'd like to see them win the next two against the stinkin' Braves.

It means that if you are dumb enough to write them off after a WEEK into the season, you shouldn't be allowed to enjoy their success. Exactly.

I agree with PG.  It would be like writing the Eagles off after one abysmal blow-out loss to open the season.

One week doesn't make an entire season.  They'll catch fire eventually.  What concerns me now and for the future is what has concerned me during this past week:  Crappy starting pitching, lack of hitting with RISP and shoddy defense.  If they get that turned around (which they should) then they should be contenders all season long.
