I just found the box score...only one IBB.  His line is 0-0 2R and 5 BB.

Now that Abreu is gone, does that mean Dellucci will get a full time spot in the OF?

Probably not. Dellucci should be traded too. Teams are looking for a LH bat and he is only signed through the end of this year. He said he wants to play more and I think they are going to play Victorino in RF.

David has been playing a lot to be showcased and because Burrell is a huge vadge and sucks right now. But if STL or a team like that wants him, I bet Gillick deals him.

Lidle is a decent started and has thrown real well lately.

Stark was on ESPNews saying that Shef is pissed off something fierce and is blowing up on the Yanks FO.

Notes from another MB on Gillicks PC on CSN:

- Had a major deal blow up on them last night and since it blew up they went this route with dealing Abreu. (My guess is they had Burrell traded and he vetoed it. If thats true it will make me hate Burrell even more).

- Said there are 1 or 2 more deals that he wants to get done.

- Said he would probably not move Dellucci because that would leave him with 3 OFs

Here is Chief17's recap: he did a pretty good job

Quote-Deal was done at 12:30....Amaro finalized the waiving of the no-trade at 2:30

-Abreu gave them an idea of where he would go a week ago

-Said the team wasn't good enough, they haven't won with this group and you have to change the mix. Said he wanted the payroll flexibility to do some things in the offseason

-Said he had a very limited market because Abreu could control where he would go. Said he had a small group of clubs to work with and couldn't play one team off to work against the other. Said there were 4 teams that Abreu said he would go to.

-Said the deal will give others a chance to play and he thinks people will be suprised how well they play

-Expect at least 1 or 2 more moves......1 more for sure

-The no-trade clauses and contracts didn't give him flexibility. HE HAD OTHER DEALS IN PLACE BUT NO-TRADE CLAUSES KILLED IT.

-Yankees went back and forth on Lidle vs. Lieber. Said the deciding factor was Lidle's contract expiring.

-Said he had some other deals on the table for Abreu, but the Yankees deal was the best

-A deal for another player blew up this morning. Not Lieber or Abreu. Nothing is imminent with Lieber right now.

-They like Dellucci and he will be here for at least the rest of the season

-Re-iterated they had to change the mix......the status quo wasn't going to win.

-"John" (a scout, not sure of last name) loves the lefty they got from the Yankees. Arbuckle is very high on Henry and Sanchez.

-Main benefit of the deal was payroll flexibility

-Said he's had no salary restrictions since coming to Philly

-Had to buy out Abreu's no-trade clause

-Said realistically, this team isn't ready to contend in 2007 at this point. Cited a very young pitching staff that is going to take some lumps next year. He is going to build the team with young players and trades rather than free agency.

-Said the main focus is filling holes on the pitching staff

-Said the starting pitching is the main reason they suck (my words). Said all phases of the team have been inconsistent.

nice post Phreak!

QuoteMain benefit of the deal was payroll flexibility
read: cheap.   Let's hope the Phils truly will use this savings wisely.   plus Leiby, Bell, Wolf probable savings.
QuoteSaid the deal will give others a chance to play and he thinks people will be suprised how well they play
let us pray.  Hopefully we can get the whole team to play with Utley's heart.
QuoteSaid he had some other deals on the table for Abreu, but the Yankees deal was the best
...and even this "best" doesn't appear that way...yet.
QuoteSaid the starting pitching is the main reason they suck (my words).
  suck is correct.
QuoteSaid all phases of the team have been inconsistent
team has no heart!

Fact is, Abreu had very little power this year, and in fact very little since the HR Derby title last year.

He still has a high OBP, but his slugging percentage is .434 for the season, and BELOW .400 since June 1.

Gillick was just not going to get a lot for him.  Abreu has been a very average player for a large part of this season, and for the second half of last season.

Random thoughts:

Is anyone surprised that payroll is going to drop off?  I'm sure they'll use the "reasoning" of no longer being in the top % of income.  Of course, having a team that sucks makes it hard to sell tickets.

Henry will (supposedly) be ready to take over at SS at just about the time Rollins comes up for free agency.

Howard should be batting third for now.  They may slide Burrell to 3rd and Howard to 4th to keep the L-R-L going.  If Burrell ever plays again.

I suspect that Lieber will be gone soon.  Once again, call up Floyd.

Bruce Sutter looks like the minister that officiated my wedding.  Did I really watch him play when I was a kid?  He looks... old.

Buck O'Neil should be inducted into the Hall of Fame today.  MLB blundered again on this one.

Wild guess:  Alan Trammell manages the Fightins next season.

BigEd76

Trammell?  Nah.  Hopefully it's Pendleton or Hershiser...

Like I said, total wild guess.  I can hear the announcement now:  "Alan has a track record of being able to patiently guide young players."

This team is going to suck hard next year, no matter who the manager is.

I wonder if Gillick isn't full of sh** with Dellucci.  I'd like to see him stay, but why if they won't be able to re-sign him?
