I think I've mentioned this before but I love the whole Crystal City/Arlington area. I've been down there a ton over the past year for work and can totally move my business down there and set up shop without much of a hiccup to the rest of my life..it's not terribly far from philly, home, west point, etc..

Generally speaking, how does that location stack up as far as living for a few years? I like Georgetown too but I don't think I'd move there unless it was the perfect spot..

this is a question for phatty and rjs I think.

if you asked me, I'd say stay out of D.C. entirely.   It farging sucks.  No working class neighborhoods.  Either yuppies doing a stint in Washington on their way up the snake chain, or ignant ghetto dwellers trapped in no-way-out hell.  F that town.

Dio's totally right about the lack of blue collar population in DC but who cares? Matt and I lived in Crystal City for a year and other parts of Arlington for several. It was awesome. Easy access to th city and lot of bars/restaurants. It basically a great combination of the good parts of the suburbs and the good Parts of a city.

this is pretty much 100% on point...dc is awesome to visit...free museums and shtein....zoo is awesome...i also really enjoy working there...but the transiency of it makes it despicable to go out or live in

the lack of working class neighborhoods is true but it doest hurt it as much as the fact that it has no ethnic neighborhoods....its lily white wasp transplants from MA or segregated blacks...

no italians....germans....irish...ect...which means awful food and no heart or soul

baltimore is pretty bad and its still a billions times better city than dc

Anyone ever played Crud? It's played on a pool table without a stick. Throw a couple of beers and a wager in and it becomes a fun night.

Did my grad work at Georgetown.  The neighborhood is a snobatorium, and pricey, with no train access.  Like DC well enough, and Arlington/CC is a great location to access everything.
The best thing about DC is the availability of almost any ethnic food you can think of, often cheap and authentic, if you know where to look.  We don't have any of that here in N Ill.

Yeah IGY's assertion that DC doesn't have good food is farging bizarre.
