So Katy Perry had a skit with Elmo on Sesame Street that got pulled because her dress showed some cleavage.

Overprotective MA parents and overbearing Christians....gotta love em.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

I don't have a problem with it.  The target demographic is kids aged 2-5....they'll get exposed to plenty of clevage as they get older so it's not going to kill anyone to keep it off Sesame St.

I guess I missed the part where a 5 year old watching TV even notices how low cut a girls shirt is.

Pretty sure the singing red furball with the high pitched goofy voice is what has them captivated.

They may not consciously notice, but it's still leaving an imprint.  They made the choice to pull it and it's their show.  If anyone's really upset that their kid won't get to see some clevage then all they gotta do is put on any of the other 900+ channels on tv.

I'm with the prudes on this one.  Girls will be subjected to enough socialization that tells them to dress for the nightclub every day, it can wait until after Sesame Street.  Not to mention the boys, most of whom will never ever sniff a piece of ass so nice as what society taunts them with daily from the age of....Sesame Street.

You are very mistaken.  They notice way way more than you know and it does affect them.

They may notice that her dress is low cut but they aren't sexualizing it in their brains like adults do. Think I just made up a word there, but yo uget what I mean

I'm sure you've watched your children watching TV (if they're old enough). I know I have...they're completely engrossed. They sit there with glassy eyes and jaw half way open because the talking red ball of fur is on TV and it's amazing to them. Look now he's talking to that pretty lady who wants to play with him. Now they're singing a song. Oh look, nice tits.

Any kid that watches that isn't seeing anything any worse than when mom and dad take them out to the store, or to the mall, or to the movies, etc.

We could go into the amount of "sex" vs violence shown on TV in other countries vs. what's shown here, and the relation of those numbers to crime rate and such, but I won't because i know you know about all that crap. American society needs to stop putting a negative light on the human body, like it's some sort of taboo. Luckily, 6 olds generally aren't old enough to get that message either, so a healthy self-image/not being ashamed of your body probably isn't effected.

Edit-I meant, I've watched children watching TV...not I've watched your children watching TV :-D :paranoid

That's kind of the point though.....there's almost nothing around that has no sex or sexual innuendos anymore.  It's everywhere.  So what's the problem with a show making it a point be as "unsexy" as possible?  Or more importantly, what's the problem with parents who want 1 show for their kids to watch that isn't going to show anything that could even be considered remotely sexy?

They'll get exposed to that stuff plenty as they grow up, no sense throwing it at them while they're trying to learn to count to tit ten.

Munson

Did you watch the clip?

She's wearing a dress because the point of the song was Elmo wanted to play dress up with her. 6 year old girls play dress up with dresses all the time. They just don't have tits yet.

Yeah, I saw it and it's showing a lot more than just the top of her clevage.  It's a night club whore top and I definitely wouldn't want my daughters (when they were younger) watching that for any reason.
