you should see the kids my wife has this year as a pre school teacher.  She teaches in a title 1 school, meaning that most students come from poor families.  The problem with these families is they treat having their kids in school, as daycare.  Its amazing how trashy some of the families can be.

Try some of the families with special-needs kids. Scary.
Thats what she teaches.  Maryland is inclusive and she's the primary spec ed teacher, and most preschool kids accepted are either on the lower poverty scale or have IEP's.  She has some bad ones, i really have no clue how she does it.

Same here. The paperwork alone would drive me insane.

A lot of my professors/teachers since high school have been telling me to minor in Spec Ed because it would mean an automatic job when I'm done college. I don't think I could handle a class full of special needs kids, but Delaware is moving towards the streamline or mainstream or whatever it's called philosophy. Part of me sees why this is a good idea for the special needs kids, but another part of me wonders how a teacher (at least one without the special ed degree) can handle those kids and get through the lesson plan for the rest of the kids.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

its very difficult to get most kids into a schedule, let alone children who are autistic, but your professor is right.  My wife instantly found work because of her degree, and kept her job this past year during cutbacks because of that same degree.

she gets a lot of practice in the evening

since we're on the topic of bad/stupid parents.....things that piss me off:

kids not potty trained between 2 and 3.
kids still sucking on a pacifier after 2
any kid, any age on a leash
those gigantic plastic carts at the grocery store with built in seats for kids that are like 8 yrs old.
anyone who refers to themselves in the 3rd person when talking to a kid over the age of 2 or 3.  the kid knows who the farg you are by now.
people who refuse to spank their kid when the kid doesn't respond to anything else.  1 good ass beating every now and then works wonders.
your kids

PhillyGirl

agreed on all but the spankings.

Sorry, hitting a kid not okay. Ever.

a smack on the ass to show em who's boss won't kill them.  It's not abuse.  A belt across the face?  Yeah.  STFU and stop whining *SMACK*?  No.

Whatever, not having this argument.

Its not okay here. That's all.

And Ed, until you have kids...not really something to comment on.

I also believed I'd do it before I had kids. My parents smacked the shtein out of me (well, my mom). I don't think you need to make your kids FEAR you or FEAR that you'll smack them, to get them to do things. They're not dogs.

Many would argue it's not okay to smack dogs. I'm not one of them, but there are many.

I agree. I wonder how many of them spank their own kids.

I spank other people's kids and impregnate their dogs.
