So my boy had to run a mile today in gym class -- I think it's a state requirement.  Anyway, he clocked in at 7:09, as a 9 year old.

I'm not much into running, as my girth would indicate, but since he likes it so much and apparently has a knack for running, looking for advice on what to do with him.  I tried a quick google, but didn't get too far.  I don't really know what to look for -- cross country stuff, mile races, etc, etc.

Any runners with advice?

Let him run where and when he wants. Like someone else said, buy him some running shoes and let him do his thing. Just don't let him attend a scrimmage at Colorado State.

I think you should force him to run against his will. Get him the most expensive shoes you can find, and then start chasing him with a whip.

He'll learn to love it.

I wouldn't get too excited.  I ran a pretty quick mile as a youth too.  Now I couldn't even break 10 minutes.

Have him try being a midfielder in soccer or some shtein.
