yeah, but I lived in the area for seven years ('93 through '00,) so I know what I'm talking about.

So my boy had to run a mile today in gym class -- I think it's a state requirement.  Anyway, he clocked in at 7:09, as a 9 year old.

I'm not much into running, as my girth would indicate, but since he likes it so much and apparently has a knack for running, looking for advice on what to do with him.  I tried a quick google, but didn't get too far.  I don't really know what to look for -- cross country stuff, mile races, etc, etc.

Any runners with advice?
The drawback to marital longevity is your wife always knows when you're really interested in her and when you're just trying to bury it.

Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

Tell him to stop running.  It will ruin his potential smoking habit.

A 7 minute mile for a 9 year old is pretty good though.  That's about the pace I run when we do our PFT which is 3 miles.  I usually finish anywhere between 20:30 and 21:00.  I've been out running a lot lately though because I'll be running my PFT next month and I'm hoping to get back under 20 minutes....which I haven't done in almost 10 years.  I timed myself today at 20:18 and I didn't really push myself the last half mile like I typically do so I think I'll be in good shape.

Buy him new running shoes. And if he wants to run, he'll run. Don't push him to do anything.

rjs246

Push him to play a sport where running is handy. Would you rather end up watching a high school team game of some sort or a farging cross country race?
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

That's the same approach Jenny took with Forrest.  Then she got teh aids.

That's because she was farging drug-crazed hippies. If she'd have just stuck with da Gump, she'd still be alive.
