Im buying a Toyota 4runner when i get my tax refund, anyone have one?  I took one out for a test drive today, great ride, really liked the v8, and the price isnt bad.  I've always liked how 4runners seem to age well for a car, they never drastically change design, and 12 year old ones still look damn good. 

I've got a 98 4runner that I bought brand new (19 miles on it) and 10 years later I've got 150,000+ on it and it's still running strong.  I've only had 2 actual problems with it over the years.  First one was about 5 years ago with the transmission but that was brought on by a lazy/bad mechanic than an actual problem with the vehicle itself.  The other back in November when I broke down in Oklahoma because a pulley was stripped.  Other than that, routine maintainence is all that's been required and as long as you take care of it, it'll run forever.  

The real question is why are you buying a new one if they hold up so well, and the used ones still look good?  Is your house paid off?  Are you going to be able to retire at 40?

Buy a late model used one.  You'll be glad you didn't throw your money away.

^^This is true talk^^  With the way gas prices are right now, I'm sure you'll have no problem finding a V8 on dealer lot that's only a year or 2 old and still in "like new" condition.  Go on cars.com and do a search within a 90 or 100 mile radius and see what comes up.  I did this when I was shopping for my Stang.  I wanted a brand new one (2006) but when I searched the net I found close to 30 05's with less than 2500 miles on them and I even found maybe 5 or 6 2006's out there too.  

Obviously with a 4runner, they are more likely being used as daily drivers so you probably won't find any/many with super low mileage like that but you could probably find something a year or 2 old with anywhere between 20-30,000.  

One other thing...if you choose to look at used cars, ask the dealer how long they've had it.  If it's been on their lot more than 3 months you can haggle a few extra $$ of the price.  And if they've had it close to or more than 6 months you can literally just take it from them.
