Health care can suck it. People get sick and die. We aren't meant to live forever and the last thing we should be dumping money into is our never-ending quest for elongated and eternal life.

I've never read a more apt and dead-on post from you.  Ever.

Well struck, hippie.

PS: Say people live to be 80 instead of 75.  Are those last five years really worth living if the previous 75 were spent living cautiously and not enjoying oneself?  I think not.  Living like an ascetic is fine if that's what you're into, but personally I prefer eating delicious foods, drinking whatever I want, and generally being a slug otherwise.

yeah because btwn the ages of 75-80 are the only ones that need health care

kids never need it...those formative 8-12 years...eh farg em

Marge: I have someone who can help you!
Homer: Is it BATMAN!!??
Marge: No hes a scientist
Homer: Batman is a scientist.
Marge: Its not BATMAN!

Fine, take health care away from the elderly and give it to kids. Or don't. Who cares. People survived for thousands of years without government regulated health care. The goal of humanity shouldn't be to cure every disease and eternally extend our life expectancy. There will always be disease. There will always be death. Why not make the rest of the world a better place to live in rather than trying to squeeze every possible second of unnaturally long life out of everyone? For example, governments could pass a law requiring that bacon be included in every meal. See how much better life could be?

I'd be happy with letting people die who want to die (assisted suicide).  I also support a health care/health insurance system that charges more (or excludes) for high-risk behavior.  However, do you want to deny mothers pre-natal care?  Well-baby care?  Let the kid who fell off the swing die of an infection? Let the person who is hit by a drunk driver die?  I don't think so.
An ad hominem fallacy consists of asserting that someone's argument is wrong and/or he is wrong to argue at all purely because of something discreditable/not-authoritative about the person or those persons cited by him rather than addressing the soundness of the argument itself.

I'm not suggesting taking health care away from people. I'm suggesting that we shouldn't dump a bunch of money into expanding health care which seems to be a common theme these days.

i think youre confusing health care with say the national institutes of health getting a billion dollars to cure cancer...i disagree on with you on both accounts but if youre against funds going to the curing of diseases then you at least have a semi lucid point...but to not put fund towards taking care of our citizens once they get sick i think is nuts

Can you explain why the US spends more per person for health care than Canada, yet the people get less benefit?  I advocate a restructuring, not another subsidy...

Health Care practices and procedures are based largely on the research done at NIH and other (private) research firms. So NIH's work is ultimately very closely tied to the health care industry.

And to your point about taking care of our citizens I agree to an extent. There's a difference between improving the quality of life (which I support) and simply extending life as long as possible (which is stupid and wasteful).

The health care system in this country is a cluster-farg. HMO, PPO, PCP...whatever. There is so much red tape horseshtein you have to go through to have medical stuff done its ridiculous.

Susquehanna Birder

The cost of health care is attributable to one thing: the false economy created by health care insurance. If everybody had to actually pay out-of-pocket for the services they received, the entire health care industry would find a way to manage their bottom line other than by gouging the consumers because the deep pockets in the insurance biz will pay up.

You really are the master of taking something that someone posts and completely butchering the point, bro.

Seriously, where did I mention children in my post?  Additionally, where did I say that old people are the ONLY ones who need health care??

In your zeal to make a point, you always take what is written out of context and then apply it to suit your point.  I mean, it's amusing as hell, IGY, but if we're going to attempt to discuss issues honestly without sarcasm or hyperbole, you really have to work on reading more thoroughly before issuing a response.
