Im back at work after a weekend of being sick and yet drinking my face off.  Yesterday we had Family Fun Day with my parents, and my brother's friends.  Went to Seacrets in OC, MD by boat, Family Fun day was ridiculous.

can someone explain why there is a memorial day (today) and an observed memorial day (monday)

why cant they just make memorial day the last monday in may

May 30 used to be the annual date of Memorial Day, but Congress passed a law to move it (along with several other holidays) to a Monday in order to give three-day weekends.

So today is the "traditional" date of Memorial Day, but Monday was the actual "observed" holiday.

So basically, the government DID just make Memorial Day the last Monday in May.

Good times for me:

So I walk to Samson St to follow up on a job application at this bar. I then walk to Borders on Chesnut to read a book for a few minutes. Then, I stop in a pizza joint on Race St for some lunch. Fascinating.

Head to 15th St to walk home and as I'm a block away from Girard Ave, I notice a police van driving backwards down the street. I think that's odd. Then the two officers get out of the van, and I figure somethings up. The one looks at me and says to take off my headphones. I comply and asks whats going on. He doesn't hesitate and tells me to turn around and put my hands on the fence and begins to frisk me (wasn't rough like you see in the movies, then again, I didn't fight him). He starts to ask where I'm coming from and what I'm doing. Makes me take out my ID and such.

Now during this my mouth is open with shock and I'm stuttering my speech, obviously I was freaked out, and I guess through this, what I was wearing (button down shirt and khaki shorts, i.e. i have money to buy decent clothes), it doesn't take a genius to figure out that I didn't do anything wrong.

Turns out there was some kind of robbery and the description of the guy who did it was that he was white. And who is the only white dude walking around the hood? farging me.

Now I understand why black people don't trust the police.

they should eliminate the 'traditional' memorial day from calenders....it makes it seem as tho the 30th has real significance

Oh most certainly. Not only that, I was wearing $300 sunglasses and my top two buttons were undone so my terrific manly chest was on display.
