Really?  Can you recommend a good book on Iwo Jima?  I'm not much on WWII yet, but my grandfather served there and so that's where I'm going to start when I take it up for realz.

Actually I cannot because I haven't hit the Pacific theater stuff in depth yet. Midway is next on my list. I have read and watched a ton on the European portion.

I will scope one out though and let you know.

If you haven't read it already, Flags of Our Fathers by Jim Bradley is a good telling of the battle (and aftermath) through the eyes of the six flag-raisers in the famous photo.   Pretty intense read, but well done.

Thanks for the recommendation. 

I'm more interested in a basic military history of the reason the island was fought for, which units were deployed when and where, what the aftermath of the victory was for the warring states, etc.  Sort of a college lecture on it first. 

Maybe after that, something more personal.  But really, I'll make a note of it, thanks.

I just googled Iwo Jima battle and several items came up. Seems like many aren't the battle strategy that you're looking for though.
