Window units are more expensive to run than central.  So the rich get richer and the poor get poorer because they have window shakers?

I'll say one thing, the rising cost of electricity has made me move my thermostat up to the high seventies. My neighbor has a really nice thermostat, the latest thing. It's round like the older ones but it's a touch screen, damn thing almost runs itself. It's programmable and he can set it from his smart phone, tablet or whatever. Real cool and I absolutely have to have it except for one thing, it's close to three hundred bucks for the one he has. Hard to justify that with all the other bills bulging out of my mailbox.

I leave mine set at 78 during the day while I'm gone and keep it 73-74 while lounging around. At night it goes to 68-70.

We have a big window unit in the living room and a window unit upstairs in my mom's bedroom. My bedroom is downstairs and the big unit cools that as well.

We've used them twice this summer. Pretty much only use them when it gets up above 92 or so. Sitting around sweating all day is fun.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

I live in Florida.  Of course I have central air.  It's ten years old, though, so I don't know if that makes me rich or not.

I have a geo thermal unit that heats and cools the entire farm house.  It has 6 zones and I keep all of them on 68 all the time.  Even when we spend most of the day in the pool.   ha ha ha ha ha ha ha farg you poor people.

you'll just end up locked in the basement getting french handshakes all day.  And you'll probably need a sweater.

At least you'll be able to bang his wife. It's customary.

Either that or he'll tether you to a tree.

General_Failure

He'd be a total dick and tether you to one tree and his wife to another with just enough slack that you can't sex her up.

Apple guilty of ebook price fixing, rules federal court

QuoteThe Department of Justice accused the companies of banding together to keep ebooks above Amazon's rock-bottom discounts and chip away at its Kindle-fueled runaway lead in the ebook market. To do so, they relied on an agency model, which allowed publishers — not retailers — to set prices. The case hinged not on the agency model directly, but on the allegation that Apple's Eddy Cue and others met with publishers and suggested they accept the model, then helped them coordinate pricing. By doing so, Apple could boost its market share, and publishers could avoid the dreaded $9.99 price point that Amazon offered. Cote agreed, saying that fear of Amazon had driven publishers to accept Apple's price-fixing deal.

i think i'm going to this next month as a social experiment. i've literally never met or even seen one of these people in real life and still am not convinced it's a real subculture.
