I don't like watching people fight, but the hitting each other with shoes was kinda funny.

The man. The myth. The legend.

On the other side of the Type I coin, there are some pretty big advancements in trying to mimic the function of the pancreas (well, as far as the islet cells are concerned). My kid has been participating in trials (as a subject, not a researcher) for the continuous glucose monitoring system (CGM) that communicates directly with her insulin pump. Pretty amazing technology. There are still a few bugs, but we're getting close to a real, closed-loop type of system.

That is pretty cool.  But it still doesn't avoid the problem of local tox.  Your kid has to move the injection site periodically, no, to avoid the skin getting all scaly?  That's a direct result of hyperplasia from the insulin.  That's what our oral form was supposed to avoid.

Yep, but she's pretty good about it, and there are plenty of good sites to use. It's pretty amazing, too, just how many kids use pumps these days. It's more the rule than the exception.

One of my vendors from work had a heart attack the other night

What should I send him in the hospital?

Alcohol, food, coffee - probably not wise to send.

I think that's generally for Type I people who use an insulin pump.

speaking of caring for people you haven't seen in years

my g/f's sister is in deep mourning for a girl who just killed herself.  this girl was her very best friend through high school, and they hadn't seen each other in years, except for 6 months ago when the dead girl happened to be stripping at a strip club that the sister and boyfriend went into.

but now, you would've thought that this girl had another sister who died, multiple facebook updates, constant crying.  i mean, it all seems self-indulgent to me.  if you cared about the girl that much you would've talked to her more than once (by accident) in six years.
I'm the Anti-Christ. You got me in a vendetta kind of mood.

Diomedes

holy crap, doesn't your girlfriend have someone to talk to about this shtein other than you?

i don't wanna hear it.
