Oh, and if I haven't already adequately proven that I'm desperate to cover my ass on this blatant flip-flop, I should probably add that after the likes of Randle El and Givens went off the market, I expected the Eagles to stay "fine" at the WR position and then draft one... so even ass eater extraordinaire Jabar Gaffney was a very pleasant surprise.

I've been considering this one year deal thing and why the Eagles would sign a guy this age with the kind of potential he has shown(at least as much as Pinky that has a long term deal) amd their philosophy of signing young players long term.

The only way it makes sense is that Gaffney was looking for more than what the Eagles wanted to pay and Reid&Co. did not want a repeat of the T.O. debacle where if Gaffney outperforms his contract they have to deal with that agent again.  If Gaffney does well they can always hit him off during the season.

I disagree. I think they are just wanting to evaluate Pinkston. If Pinkston is nothing close to what he used to be Gaffney will receive an extension, and Pinkston won't be around for too much longer.

If Gaffney was looking for a pile of money (which is pretty unlikely) the Eagles would have gone elsewhere, and Gaffney wouldn't have been so willing to come in and take a one year deal for what probably amounts to peanuts in the grand scheme of things. It wouldn't have cost much to lock him up for awhile, and the position Gaffney is will never come close to the "T.O Debacle".
