Gaffney as the strong #3 would be outstanding. His signing pretty much precludes the team from going after Moulds or Walker, though. book it.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

Gaffney at 3 would only happen if we get someone else, Brown doesn't slump, and Reid doesn't pretend that Pinky can still play.

I don't know about him having no upside. Gaffney is only 25 and could use a nice change of scenery to get him back on track. The same with Carr. I think Carr can be an excellent NFL QB if he just got out of Houston and started anew with another franchise.

I like that he's sure handed, has good quickness, and gets physical and fights for the ball in deep routes. He could be a prototypical #2 WR or be very effective in the slot.

The Eagles made this move because they know that Pinkston's future is in jeopardy, considering that an achilles tear could seriously hinder his deep threat capabilities.

Brown
Gaffney
Lewis? or Draft Pick?

Yeah, they will be young, but I can't say I'm too alarmed by the WR corps if that is what we have opening day, assuming that Gaffney has something to prove and has a great mini camp and training camp.

I'm just a serious Pinkston doubter. I think his career could be over, especially if Gaffney shows the Eagles that Pinkston is expendable in his #2 role. Essentially, Pinkston is either the #2 this upcoming season or he's out of a job, because there is no way in hell he will line up in the slot and go over the middle with consistency.

If Pinkston does get back to form, he would be an outside guy in 3 WR sets, but Gaffney would probably see more overall snaps and line up in the slot.

Feva

Exactly... too many people automatically think the #3 WR means the slot.  Even though the WR's move around to get different looks, Pinky will NEVER see the slot.

Three scenarios:

Moulds
Brown
Gaffney

Walker
Brown
Gaffney

Brown
Gaffney
Pinky/Lewis/McCants/Wilbur/Whoever

That's what I want in order of importance.

I would go to battle with that WR corps, but that's also taking into account that there is practically nobody left out there to pick up in FA and the chances of a rookie coming here and making significant contributions are practically nill.

I think Gaffney could be more effective than Pinkston, considering that Gaffney has been whistle clean as far as an injury track record is concerned. I like one year deals for young players because they can usually seize the opportunity and hold nothing back because they want a big payday and still have a ton of playing years ahead of them.

I would have prefered the Eagles picking up Givens, because I think a Brown/Givens combo could have been a sweet one/two punch, plus I think Givens would have fit this system and the mentality of this team. But I'll take Gaffney, he could be a diamond in the rough.

With a weak WR class I think this is a solid pickup for the Eagles. I would still love to get Moulds but I think he is most likely trade bait on draft day for the Bills to acquire more picks and get younger.

Here is also hoping that the Eagles have Moulds in their sights. He would be an instant contributor and be a good mentor for Reggie Brown.

Moulds
Brown
Gaffney

Now that would be something that should put a smile on everyone's face.

MURP

I cant wait until the Eagles draft Maurice Stovall and everyone pretends the WR's are just so awesome.

Yeah, you're right Feva, but what I'm saying is that if Gaffney shows he can play the outside, and is more effective than Pinky, and Lewis fits back into his niche in the slot, then Pinky is expendable and is most likely gone. I know he will never play the slot, but if Gaffney is solid on the outside then there is no need for Pinkston.

And, looking at the scouting report it seems like Gaffney likes to be physical on the outside, but turns into a wussy on crossing patterns. So, it seems like his natural role would be a #2 guy going down the sideline on deep routes. Most likely Reid and Co. brought in Gaffney to challenge Pinky for his job.

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to that, really.
