I'm on board with the deal, as a minor deal.  Gaffney is better than some of the stiffs we lined up last year.  Can't hurt to get him in to compete.  It's not like he signed a monster contract.  If it works out, great.  If not, no biggie.

...and the reason we didn't sign him to more than 1-year (since he "has so much upside potential") is?????

looks like after McCants and Gaffney deals are up after this season, we start looking for WR (or 2) shtein all over again.

I'm sure most of you are thinking the same thing, but this is what will almost certainly happen.
1. The team will draft a rookie WR early, probably 2nd round.
2. The team will go to camp with Brown, Gaffney, Rookie, Lewis, Pinkston, McCants and McMullen.
3. 1 or 2 of those last 4 guys not make the team.
4. Brown and Gaffney will start.
5. After the season if the rookie does well, Gaffney will be released and the Rookie will be expected to take his place on the team. If he doesn't do well, Gaffney MIGHT be resigned but the rookie will still be touted as the future of the receiving corps.

I don't see them releasing Gaffney during the season. No real reason to.

I'm just saying that there is little to no chance that the Eagles have Gaffney in their longterm plans.

The important question is what number will he wear?  Reggie Brown already has 86!  Will he go with 84?  85?  Possibly, he will take one of the new trendy numbers in the teens like 16?  I need to know!

Gaffney = McCants

No big deal. this is just an insurance sign. we'll see what he can do come training camp.  other than that its not worth talking about.

Hmm ... no. I can't say I agree with this slavery business. I'll go pack my carpetbag and see what I can do.
