If the Line could move at the speed of light Simoneau would be a stud.

Put me in the small camp that thinks Barber will do fine if he is at the WIL.  It will be a good camp to see if Barber is fully recovered and if Dhani can hold down the SAM.  Why don't the Eagles get a true SAM linebacker?  They had one in Emmons so its not like they don't think it can work.

The thing IMO, is... at this point, the Eagles shouldn't "want to see" if they can get a decent WIL .  They need to know what they have in McCoy, or get a stud in there and let it be done for a few years.  I agree with you though that we need a true SAM backer because they know damn well Dhani can't do it worth a shtein.

I think they believe Barber is the stud who can hold it down until they know about McCoy.  I think they also believe Dhani and Greg Richmond can "compete" and they can once again turn crap into cake.  I think Chad Greenway would make sense since he is good in coverage.  I wish Demeco Ryans would fall to the second.

Let's just face it:  The Eagles are doing nothing else at WIL and probably nothing else at LB.  If they do anything, it will be to bring in someone who can play SAM, and I don't know who is out there that is really much better... Peterson?

They don't value LB's, but they do value the DL.  So, let's hope they add some beef and/or speed up front.

My best guess is that we'll only see them sign a DT and they'll be done with free agency on defense.  Why?  Because the defense's poor performance was really an anomale for the most part... partially because of being on the field so damn much and partially due to injuries.

So, the hope turns to the offense.  If the Bentley rumor is true, kick ass.  You'd have to hope they'd add at least another WR and possibly a FB and/or blocking TE.  Also backup QB.  And another OL beyond Bentley wouldn't hurt (Runyan), but we know how the Eagles like to give young guys a chance to play.

So... the likely list is probably something along these lines:

FA additions - Barber (starting WIL), Bernard/Pickett/Tripplett (starting DT), Bentley (starting C), Givens/Moulds (starting WR), Campbell (2nd TE), Garcia (2nd QB)

Anything less than something like this is unacceptable.  Anything more helps (especially along the OL or front 7).

I would actually really like the idea of signing Dan Campbell, he can catch when needed and is a real nice TE blocker. Is he available?

somebody should start a thread where we predict who they will get.  that would be super fun.

Barber will be on Sirius within the next hour, I'm sure you're all on the edge of your seats waiting so I'll make sure I leave a detailed and prompt update.

Shawn Barber on Sirius:

-- Thinks his most successful year was the year he spent with the Eagles in JJ's defense
-- Health wise he's ready to go, will be there for the first OTA and training camp
-- Asked how did he wind up back in Philly: Said it was a no-brainer and hasn't felt comfortable playing the LB position since he left Philly. Says the Philly D fits his game perfectly.
-- Likes JJ's defense because it's aggressive.
-- Says Michael Lewis should be a pro-bowler. Loves the way the defense is assembled right now.
-- Said he's not about the money, just loves to play the game. Doesn't care for a pay day, just wants to make sure he's compensated for his level of play.
-- Has the same agent since he left college.
-- Had a choice between a 3 year deal with the Eagles or a 1 year deal and would have been happy with either. Doesn't care how long the deal was.
-- Wishes KC the best, thinks they have a lot of young guys who haven't reached their potential yet.

Sure.  That's why he jumped for big dollars to KC on the first day of free agency in 2003.

I thought the exact same thing but he sounded humbled to be back here.
