Moreover, Netflix is in partnership with Wal-Mart, who I hate.

damn.  I didn't realize that.

It's a small outfit, and I'd be lying if I said they worked as efficiently as Netflix.  The site isn't as easy to use, and the discs take longer to arrive.  But my demand for service and frequency of viewing rentals aren't so high that I need next day delivery.  So it works for me.  Plus did I mention: games AND porn.

Essentially, Wal-Mart agreed to close down their DVD rental by mail outfit and directed their customer base to Netflix.  In exchange, Netflix now links directly to Wal-Mart for all DVD sales.  They aren't linked in any further way to my knowledge (i.e. exchange of stocks, etc.)  Still, they're in bed together with the covers pulled up to their chins.  When they announced the deal, I cancelled Netflix and told them why.  That's when I found the service I use.

i know there is an entire counter-WalMart thing out there, but I never looked into why that is.  can someone explain it?  is it just the big corporate thing?

They use their ginormous size to essentially force manufacturers into giving them deep pocket discounts other retailers can't get.  They move into small markets and basically force all their competition out of business by offering prices no one can compete with.

Also, the Canadian legal system found that it was illegal for Wal-Mart to prevent their workforce from unionizing.  Wal-Mart's response?  They closed the store.

Not a nice company.  Plays by China's rules in the US.  Clever, but evil.

They treat their workers like shtein, especially women.  Anti-union.  They kill local business.  Every town that has a Wal Mart move in sees it's welfare rolls increase--with people who are employed by Wal Mart.   Slave labor at their overseas suppliers' factories.  Censorship of products/content, under the banner of "American Christian morals," etc.

I can honestly say I've never spent a dime in a Wal Mart.  [To be fair, I did shop at Sam's Club long ago, which is the same company/family.  And by "long ago" I mean 7 or 8 years.  I don't wanna turn this into a bash Wal Mart thread, so I'll just leave it at that.

here's a link to one of the larger anti-Wal Mart organizations:  walmartwatch.com

well, those are certainly good reasons.  i shop there and will continue to, because my budget is my primary concern.  but i can definitley see why people are against them.  thanks for the info.

We use Target and BJ's, FWIW.  I'm sure they're basically just as evil anyway.

yeah im not sure.  Someone I know had 40 year old virgin in the que and it said "very long wait" for over a month.  They decided just to go to the store and rent it instead.
