Wrong alot of music you buy online comes with full artwork, notes, everything digitally. some bands even provide print ready formats in which you can print it out yourself. I agree I do love the hard copies myself, but it got a bit ridiculous. I have so many CDs and burned CDs it was consuming so much space. So I scaled that shtein down. I have 55 GBs of music stored digitally and unknown amounts of other music from years past in mp3 format on CDs. DVDS etc...The 55 GBS is 33 days worth of continuous music.

Alot of bands are now putting together special packages in which you can buy cd, vinyl, special art/photo books, signed memorabilia, limited edition stuff for more $, but obviously there is more value in that than a simple CD. I think if more bands offer that, they can still appeal to people like IGY and still offer digital downloads for the masses.

CD's aint worth shtein, unless its rare

i have tons of rare shtein..especially records

i have the slim shady ep cd of which only about 125 were ever made...who knows how many exist

limited edition albums would probably remain in demand.  or even box sets that come with rare or never released recordings along with more detailed info about  the band/bio's/etc.

i have several box sets that i'll never get rid of.  i also still have a few records on vinyl that i'll hang on to as well.  but the bulk of my cd collection are albums i bought off the shelf at sam goody and i've already copied them to my computer so i could care less about the actual cd itself.  i'll either yard sale them, use them for coasters or develop a ninja like accuracy in throwing them at people and slitting their throats.  in any case, i doubt i'll ever actually put one in a cd player ever again.

whenever i plug my computer into my home theater system, the artwork pops up on the tv and it's bigger and better than your little 4inch album art.  noob.

no it isnt cause you get a artificial picture of an album cover...you get no liner notes...no inside photo or art work...and you cant hold it caress it and love it like i can

i know that with itunes, there are sections set up to put just about any piece of information related to that album or song including lyrics and additional artwork.  and you don't even want to know what things i've rubbed against my tv screen.

i see your point with the limited edition stuff, but that's about it.

im not sure how your boom box is only last 3-4 hours on new batteries.

i dont know but i used to run it on d batteries and they would never ever last a whole tailgate (4pm or nite game tailgate) playing cd's......this year i started using an mp3 player and it goes forever

i hate burning shtein tho because a lot of rap songs either begin or end with an interlude of some sort...when i burn a cd on my stand alone player i can start and stop the recording whenever i want...when you burn shtein you have to burn it as the file is...and who wants to hear dumb ass talking or a two minute intrumental intro into the song really want to hear...also mp3 song volume levels are 95% of the time lower than when a song is burnt straight off a cd

yeah i just dont want that shtein from a compter...i want the real deal...i want a jewel case with the original cd booklet

plus i dont know exactly what the bulk of your collection is but its probably for the most part more mainstream than underground rap from the 80's or early/mid ninties....so you can find most of your stuff online rather erasily with arrtwork and all....the vast majority of my stuff wasnt popular when it came out much less now...and even the stuff that is not rare is still mostly all OOP...like if i had to replace a cd...many of my cd's IF i can find them at all are usually found on a place like half.com and they are going for 50-100 bucks

yeah, most of the stuff in my cd collection is/was pretty mainstream.  i haven't really bought cd's much in the last 10 years since everything started going digital, so most of my cd collection is either classic rock or 80s and 90s hiphop....most of which can be downloaded online.  although i have a few select albums that i still haven't been able to find on itunes.

so if the stuff is hard to come by, then hanging on to the actual disk makes sense.

but for me, there's no way in hell i'm hanging onto the ac/dc cd's i bought in the 90's, especially since the albums were from the 70's and early 80's.  if i had them on vinyl it'd be a different story though.  i'm just sick of having them suck up space in my house, not to mention it's just one more thing i have to worry about dragging around the country with me every time i move.

i'll probably throw them up on craigslist or something.

ice grillin you

yeah def if its stuff like ac/dc or rolling stones or whatever its a whole different story

like i wont even bring my OOP rap cd's in my car or for that matter anywhere outside of my basement...where as something like tribe called quest ill bring anywhere  because i know i can easily replace it

you should just put your quest cd on your itunes and get rid of the cd altogether.

seriously dook?

it's a 2 function system.

1.  digital music store.  buy songs, albums, movies, music videos and download podcasts.

2.  it's your digital music collection/media player (like windows media player or real tunes).  allows you to organize all of your music (both purchased through itunes and copied from your cd's).

free to download the itunes software and you don't have to have an ipod to use it.

cant believe you just described itunes
