A poster posts this blurb about Saunder saying he was not happy with Portis for removing himself from the game. Saunders says this and is quoted and they blame the reporter for trying to stir shtein up! And then one guy says he doesn't believe it.

ASHBURN, Va. -- When Clinton Portis took himself out with the game with the score tied late in the fourth quarter, the coach calling the plays was far from pleased.

"I was not happy about that," Washington taterskins assistant Al Saunders said Wednesday.

Portis, who decides when he plays and when he sits, decided to sit mid-drive with the score tied at 27 and the ball in the opponent's territory in Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Ladell Betts entered and ran the ball on the next three plays, including a third-and-1 that he failed to convert.

"The first thing that went through my mind: 'Why are you coming out?'" Saunders said. "I talked to Clinton about that today. There's a scenario, and you're trying to set up things sometimes. And if he comes out to--quote, as he said--'recover,' it sometimes really throws you off."

I don't believe this for a second

One could easily assume this to be taken out of context, too.

Saunders could have said that with a smile on his face, or with a chuckle. The writer makes it seem like Al was serious about it, and that may not be the case.

I have trust in Gibbs that he will talk to both Saunders and Portis behind closed doors about this matter.

Gibbs needs to talk to Saunders and tell him that he needs to trust Portis knowing that Portis knows himself best on when he needs breathers, and to rest his shoulder.

Portis needs to be talked into trusting Saunders, and knowing that Saunders will give Portis enough time to rest without giving too much of a workload in between.

Both needs to be talked to about not letting this stuff get to the media. The media openly loves these types of things, and likes it to fester (like TO and Shockey).

And I trust Joe Gibbs to do all of that, well because he's Joe Gibbs.

He's playing his way back into shape after the missed time. This is just an AP guy on deadline desperate for copy.

Lost in the mega-hype about the game this weekend in Philadelphia is the Lavar Arrington vs. Washington saga going on through the media. It's pretty entertaining and if not for TO coming back here this would be bigger.

When asked what help Giants linebacker LaVar Arrington could provide about the taterskins' defense, Lindsey replied, "None. He didn't know anything when he was here, what makes you think he'll know something up there?''

After saying, "I shouldn't have said that,'' Lindsey a few moments later said he was just being honest.

Earlier in the day, corner Shawn Springs said, "I don't think LaVar knew all the defenses when he was here.''

However, when asked by CBSSportsline.com earlier this summer which coach he would not want to play for, Arrington replied, ''Joe Gibbs.''

But in between his attempts to stay above the fray, Arrington got in his digs -- at Lindsey, at Springs, at Gibbs, at the taterskins in general. He said he even gave a copy of the taterskins' playbook to Giants Coach Tom Coughlin.

"I told him the little bit that I know about the Washington taterskins," Arrington said, a reference to Lindsey's comment Wednesday that Arrington couldn't help the Giants prepare for the taterskins because he didn't know anything when he was with the taterskins. "It was like a two-minute conversation. But what I did know [is], I do have your playbook. So if I don't understand it, I'm sure Coach Coughlin can decipher it."

Arrington, asked if he was serious and really had a copy of the playbook, said, "Sure, I do." It was pointed out that a player is supposed to turn in his playbook when he leaves a team, and Arrington said: "Well, I'm gone now. [It's] Arrington property now. Or New York Giant property now. And I understand some things."

Lindsey said Thursday there's a process by which players have to check in and check out their playbooks and all should be accounted for before a player leaves. He did not rule out the possibility that Arrington had one or had made a copy, but said, "If he has got one, I guarantee you it's never been opened."

Springs also said Wednesday that Arrington didn't seem to know the taterskins' defense.

"Shawn Springs, all he really did for himself is show himself to the taterskins fans like, that's stupid," Arrington said. "That's stupid to even make a comment like that, to be honest. So he showed himself and he's got to deal with that, not me."

Of Springs, who's been sidelined by a groin injury, Arrington added later: "You get some guys, they feel like they know a whole lot of things. Maybe he's one of those guys that feels like he knows a whole lot. I don't know. It's interesting to me. I don't know that he's even playing, so why would you make a snide remark and you're not even having anything to do with the outcome of the game? . . . You have a coach throw a statement out there. You get a company guy to sit there and co-sign it, and what do you get? People believe it."

Arrington said that if Gibbs truly had wanted things to work out, he would still be with the taterskins.

"He's Joe Gibbs, man," Arrington said. "If he wanted something to be different, it would have been different. Am I lying? Is that an accurate statement? He's a part of the trinity, some people would say. . . . But there's no need looking back on that. It is what it is. I could care less. Joe Gibbs could call me the worst person in the world or he could call me the best person in the world. It doesn't matter. Who is he? He's just the coach of another team that we're playing."
