Just got rid of my dialup. I have a McAfee security system right now, although Verizon DSL offers everything but a firewall for free. Should I keep running the McAfee and renew my subscribtion or go with the free verizon package and just get a new firewall?

Must you pick on every recent dialup convert?

I lovin' it already, I'm just a little concerned about using the free protection. I'm looking for a little info. Anyone else using it? If they offered a free firewall, I'd already have unistalled the McAfee.

I'm assuming you mean a software firewall. McAfee has a good one, as does Norton (would recommend Norton Internet Security 2005). I would stick with either of those, as they are dedicated Firewalls with daily updates available. Verizon is good at getting you on the net fast, making your phones work, etc., but not so much at protecting you from the baddies floating around out there. Another benefit to the Norton Internet Security package is it comes with an ad blocker, anti-virus, anti-spam for e-mail, and some other nice utilities. I'm not so familiar with the McAfee stuff, but would be surprised if they didn't offer something similar to the Norton product. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that is what I'm hearing from most everyone I've asked.

Personally, I like the double protection of a hardware firewall/router, and then using a software firewall on each computer. Even then some crap still gets through...which is why I still need adware killers, antivirus, and all that jazz.
