The ESPN article on Beckett/Texas originally said that the Phils, Twins and Rays are interested in trading for Blalock...

I would love for the Blalock rumor to be true.  I saw him play in the minors (when Texas still had their A team in the FSL) along with Teixeira, and they were incredible even back then.  You knew both would make the majors.

Even got Blalock to sign his minor league card, and Teixeira a ball.  :D

Thome and Bell for Blalock.  Noooo problem.

I'd bet that Texas would be looking at Floyd and/or Hamels, for starters.  They need pitching, badly.

PhillyPhreak54

I'd give them Floyd for Blalock

Floyd and a prospect.

blalock is another lefty, right? platoon him and bell. king of lhp must stay.  :deion
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

PhillyPhreak54

Yeah, he's a LH.

Bell must get herpes.

MDS

they would probably want abreu in return. frankley, i think trading abreu's offense is blalocks offense isnt a good idea. blalock is just like burrell and howard. ive said i only trade abreu for superior pitching. abreu will be surley missed and trading him is the only way people will realize his contributions to this team.

blalock is obviously leaps and bounds better than david bell. but actually, im serious when i said i would platoon bell with blalock. he hits under .200 against lhp last year. if we get blalock without trading abreu, then the lineup would have to go: abreu-rollins-utley-howard-burrell-blalock-victorinio-loserthal.

It's possible that Abreu could be in the mix.  They have some good young outfielders (Laynce Nix for one).  Delucci had a career year last year and still only sported a .251 average.  Kevin Mench is a good young player, but I've heard his name mentioned in a few different trading scenarios.  Richard Hidalgo is overrated.

I'd still say that target one for the Rangers is pitching, pitching and more pitching.  Their starting staff sucks other than Chris Young (a good young pitcher that faded at the tail end of last season). Rogers is nutso and gone.  I'm not even sure that Floyd would bring the Rangers to the table.  They'd want Hamels, I believe.

All this is, of course, mere speculation anyway.  :deion

Perish the thought! After all, the Yankees would never try and do anything like that, would they?
