Is McNabb too sensitive?

I do think McNabb is too sensitive.  No BS, no joking.

Now, let me hedge that statement by saying that he's a very solid character guy and great leader.  I don't want to imply that he's a bad guy or any less of a teammate.  I'm just being honest.

I don't make my comments in regard to the TO situation.  I think Donovan has been fine in regard to his dealing with Owens and his comments/antics.  I'm looking more at his past.

Donovan does not take criticism well.  I remember watching a preseason game vs the Ravens in 2002.  Troy Aikman said that Donovan wasn't an accurate passer.  And Troy was right.  Donovan is not accurate.  I'm not talking about completion percentage, I'm talking about having rcvrs catch the ball consistently at their ankles or a foot behind them.

Donovan got very defensive about these comments and to this day detests when anyone questions his accuracy.  I don't know why.  Every player has a weakness.  Troy Aikman was a statue.  Brett Favre forces the ball and throws too many picks.  Steve McNair can't stay healthy.  Donovan isn't accurate.  No player is perfect.  Accept your problems and try to improve them.

Remember last year when people talked about added pressure being on Donovan?  He pointed to his back and made some comment about how there wasn't anymore room or that all the pressure was already there.  I can't remember how he phrased it, but it was an odd comment.  He didn't have his normal smile.  It came across like most people doubted him and he was used to everyone being against him.  Maybe that's how he feels.  I think Donovan is one of the most popular, loved players around.  My friends that aren't Eagles fans love him.  Sure he has some tough critics in the Philly media, but not to the extent he thinks he does (apparently).

The whole SB debacle.  Multiple teammates come out and talk about him being winded.  Then, magically, they all retract and Donovan says he was fine.  I haven't seen a coverup like that since 11/23/63.  I'm a hell of a lot more comfortable with him being under the weather and getting winded than thinking we took our time to be safe.

Finally, there is the whole Draft Day incident.  Every goddamn announcer/interviewer brings up the actions of 30 people as though it was how the whole city felt.  That drives me nuts.  I give Donovan a bit of a pass on this one because he constantly has to answer those questions.  However...I do wish Donovan used it more for motivation.  Tom Brady says that every offseason he gets nervous.  He thinks somehow his job is in jeopardy because he's the former 6th Rd pick.  He uses that to motivate him to get better.  And Tom has gone from just a clutch guy who knew how to win to being a great QB.  He could literally run any system at this point and do a hell of a job.  Donovan seems to let his Draft Day booing eat at him more than motivate him.  I'm going strictly off the way I read his comments during various interviews.  I could be wrong, but I sense some lingering bitterness.

I love having Donovan McNabb play QB for us.  He has a chance to have a HOF career.  He's a winner and a leader.   And he's a hell of a guy.  But I have to call it the way I see it.

How can ANYONE call this guy sensitive, I don't get it. He's taken more shtein than MOST Players in the NFL and has always handled it with total class. The best example of this was the whole Rush Limbaugh thing. NO more needs to be said after seeing the amazing way he handled that.

ANd perhaps if the media didn't bring up the booing at the draft or show it on TV constantly when talking about him, he'd have been a little closer to forgetting about it.

I'll bet he's crying right now.

Crying in a big bowl of money. Tears of gold. Poor McNabb.

The man. The myth. The legend.

If I had a friend who cried tears of gold I would pound on them relentlessly when we needed beer or bacon. Then I'd make him go to the store and by the beer for being such a crybaby. That'd be sweet.

I wish I had a friend that cried bacon. I bet it would hurt when the bacon came out, ideally causing him to cry more. It would be like a non-stop bacon factory. However, he'd better be crying bacon that's ready to eat because if it was raw bacon I'd kill him for trying to make me cook.

Good point. And not just in those two areas.

We all know "journalists" are relentless in their pounding on the same damn subject over and over and over and... well, you get the point.

I know if I get asked the same question more than twice, I have a tendency to respond in less than civil tones. Including questions of my own: "How many f'ing times do I have to answer the same f'ing question?? Am I speaking to Chinese? Or are you too stupid to retain the answer the first 10 times I give it??"... thereabouts.
Maybe the voices aren't real, but, they've got some pretty good ideas...

Goddammit, stop bringing this thread back to the original point. Does anyone really still want to talk about this?

Maybe.  I need to hear more insightful opinions.  Please, everyone... continue.

there's a very simple way thats scientifically proven...

at training camp, someone needs to kick him in the balls and then throw a cup of acid on his face.

if he shows any pain whatsoever, there you go, too sensitive

Very well put. I'm not saying I don't want McNabb here either. I love McNabb. He's my favorite QB ever. He's my top 5 favorite Eagles ever. I wouldn't want ANYONE else on my team, but I do agree with you on the inaccurate thing too. I did forget about that. He is very defensive about that. It's not a BAD thing, but it is something I believe.

For some reason, this thread comes up every time I log in at work.  I thought the new GQ article made it worth a bump.
