Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

go to Portland over Boston or the disgraceful cape

Rome

Judging by the past two posts I'd avoid New England entirely just on the off chance either one of them is there.

did some research over the weekend.  freedom trail seems to hit most of the attractions...but hotels in boston are so f'ing expensive.  never did airbnb before but we're looking into that.
cape cod is fine...i vacationed there in a previous life marriage...even visited super gay p-town.  :-D

figured you meant maine.
considered maine but wifey doesn't consider anything up north to be a vacation. she's the warm weather/beach type.  meanwhile, my pasty arse gets sunburned & i hate the ocean. boston was a compromise.  i'll have to fight the maine battle another day. def want to get up there for some relaxation in the near future.

Portland is a very interesting city.   Small-town feel in many ways, but still pretty cosmopolitan.  My wife is from that area and much of her family still lives there, so we visit at least every few years.

... and somehow I still ended up in Florida.  >:(

portland (coastal/ocean) is very much like asheville, nc (mountains)....they are as close as two cities can get just with very different landscapes

both are small cities with huge beer scenes
great restaurants and chefs
and come with a super progressive feel

id also throw burlington vermont into this same mix altho with nowhere near the food scene that either portland or asheville have

Just got back from Estes Park, CO.

If you haven't gone, then go.

First thing you should do is buy a 1-week pass to the Rocky Mountain National Park for $30.

Go before you die is all I have to say.
