the gamertags you guys came up with for me are original and totally unexpected.

my xbox live name is Birds n Bourbon.

haven't had a lot of time to mess around with mlb2k9 yet but i have noticed a few things that kind of annoy me.

when i play against my g/f i don't like the fact that she can see what pitches are being called and where i'm trying to throw them.  and i can't stand not knowing where the catcher is calling the pitch.  is it high and in?  low and away?  i just don't know.

when i play vs the computer, i can view from behind the pitcher so i can see where the catcher is setting up.

the gameplay vs the computer also seems to be much more realistic than when i play vs my g/f as well.  we've played maybe 5 games vs each other and she scores about 7 runs per game against me, all via home runs.  i'll check the pitching chart for each of her batters to see where they have a hard time hitting and i'll make that pitch and she still somehow manages to crank it out of the yard.  so even if the chart says that her batter hits .150 on sliders low and inside, she'll still hit it out of the park.  reading about the game online and from what i saw in the commercials, the game is supposed to provide realism such as hitter strengths and weaknesses.  luckily for me, it's all or nothing when i'm playing her.  she either hits solo hr's or she doesn't get on base.  but it's still very annoying serving up 7 solo shots a game.

i like playing against the computer though.  much more realistic and the controls seem to respond better.

does anyone know if there are ways to make your fielders run faster though?  particularly the outfielders.  they seem to move extremely slow in the field.

overall though, the game is a lot of fun to play.  and hamels is freaking sick.  i played a game vs the computer and threw a 1 hit shutout and k'd 11.

i want to buy a sega genesis. nhl 95. yes.
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

I haven't even tried NFL Head Coach, though. Seems sort of boring...not sure why I bought the combo package.

i tried the original for PS2 and it was one of the most boring games i've ever played.   I didnt think there could be a football game was too in depth, but that one crossed the line and then some.   Felt like you had to manage every second of every day for everyone on the team including assistant coaches etc.  mind numbing.

anyone know when madden updates rosters to include the draft picks?

of course  :boo

god i miss the ps2 days of madden

so on ps2, if you were online you could receive updated rosters ever year?  so if you went out and bought madden 2003, you could still get the 2004 roster updates via the internet?  so the only incentive to really go buy the new game would be for the changes to actual gameplay, etc?  do they still put out all of those updates for ps2 or have they stopped doing that now that they've released ps3?

i didn't go online with a game console until i got the xbox 360, thus the stupid questions.

Really depends on what you want to do with it. There was never an official roster release from EA after the draft, but you could download a customized roster that someone put together and made available...which you could use in franchise mode, or something. But since it wasn't an official release, it wasn't something that you could really use online. When you play online, everyone has to have the same roster for that purpose. Also, after a year and a half of so, they shutdown the online servers for the older versions of the games. Point is, if you bought Madden to play online with friends...the roster update wouldn't do you much good.

mussa

Zanshin is right. I got them from MaddenMania from someone with no life at all who would update rosters or make draft classes etc for free. Download the file, transfer it to a usb stick and then plug that usb stick into the ps2. you then had to buy this software in which there was a dvd to transfer the rosters onto your memory cards. then put the game in and load rosters or draft classes when the time came. so you weren't actually going through ps2 online interface, in fact i never even played online on ps2 cause i heard it was so bad. overall it made it possible to play few years of franchise and have real college guys you could draft etc...

But that was when franchise mode rocked in PS2. Even if you had the roster updates, it wouldn't be the same in next-gen. That said, I've heard that was a major area of focus for Madden 10.

mussa

I hope so. I'll have to look up what they are calling upgrades this year. Still won't be buying it. I'll rent to see if its worth it

that sounds like a lot of damn work just to make sure that you've got the most up to date rosters.  farg that, i'll just spend the $60 every year on the game.  actually, i won't.  i usually only buy madden every other year.

so seeing as this is my first venture into the online gaming world, what are some things i need to know or look out for?

btw.....i've got an almost new wireless network adapter for the xbox360 that i don't need.  $50 if anyone wants it.

Well, everyone you'll meet will be a screaming 12 year old calling you a cheating fag right before they disconnect, saving you from the ear-raping screech of a voice each one has.
