the problem they might have is the loyalty of the Playstation players. Just like when you buy Nike or drive a Lexus--there is a perception out there thats hard to overcome.

Nintendo would have to do some serious marketing of this product to get people to make the switch over--especially when you have die-hard Madden lovers who know the controller button schemes. Also, gamers have fallen in love with the ergonomic controller--which I think plays a huge part in keeping the same system. People will pay the dollars

loyalty only goes so far...but not everyone is ready to fork over almost $700 to play a game (system + extra conroller + game).

no game controllers are ergonomic. none.

it's all about the games. read spec sheets of any system you want, they make no difference. nintendo may be doing this right, one of their exclusives is an exclusive rebuilt madden 07, it's not the same game as everywhere else. in the end it will come down to the game, like i said above gamers care about the gameplay, fanboys care about the console.

i'm not a big game player anymore, but i still like it once in a while (i currently have a gamecube, and a ps2)...and in the end, cost matters to me greatly, i have car payments, mortgage, i'm married with the plan of having kids some day...and just in general have other things i like to spend money on, and save. paying $500-700 to play 1 game isnt something i will ever do anymore...maybe 10 years ago, but not any more.

Im speaking majority Dio. go into the common household and what do you see--Xbox or Playstation no question. Im saying to make that next big jump or new wave of buying habits that Nintendo is trying to pursue--they'll need some serious marketing techniques--not just gamer magazines and some trade shows.

By the way, loyalty does go a long way in purchasing. For ex: everyone knows New Balance has the best quality running shoe in comfort and performance, but why do poeple still continue to buy Nike shox at a record pace. Name goes a long way and its a tough perception hurdle to overcome

The supposed cost is what is going to kill PS3, if it is indeed $600-700.  That is going to be prohibitive to many families.

Heck, I didn't buy the PS2 until it was down to $199.  I just don't play it enough to lay out the cash much more than that.

I agree Wing, as do I but again you have to look at it from a age population point of view. There is a reason why Playstation is breaking ground near Christmas--because they know they will blow up in sales and overpower Nintendo where cost around that time is not that much of a concern to buyers. Then, what you have after is a crowd of sheep following suit. Its all marketing from these guys that going to make the difference IMO.

By the way, that price increase of $700 is only for the fanboys to play/save more movies on their 60GB hard drive rather than the 20GB. The 20GB is $499 and your paying for Blu-Ray technology. I do feel playstion is pushing the envelope in price though of $500.

yes they are guy, if the piece fits snug in your hand, their ergonomic. The ones that were not are your Atari, nintendo64 and intelevision. The Sega was even ergonomic for gods sake

Look in their pockets and you'll find a DS or a GBA.

the Wii is going to launch at the same time. and for 1/3 of the cost...which do you think the parents will pick up when they see Madden 07 sitting right next to each system?

i love playstation, they have the most games which relate to an older age group, which is the number one reason i got playstation.  they do - did have the best controller.  price wise was same as GC and X-Box.  I never even played x-box or new anyone personally who had one. GC was ok, but again too many kids games, not enough violent shtein.  So I am a huge PS2 fan.

There is no way in hell im paying anywhere near 700 for a game system.  20GB or 60GB hard drives, big deal.  Whats the advantage to the hard drive?  Hell is this computer? I'd rather spend 700 and get a mini mac with a ton of more features.  Its pathetic. If the Nintendo is 200-300, I'll buy it.  farg PS3 and that price.

I think theres a marketing backfire waiting to happen for Nintendo, especially when there a high anticipation for a new launch of a very popular console. kids will already have told their parents they want the playstation because--watch the marketing of this device

Hey Im not saying the Wii wont sell, but not more than the PS3 IMO. Over in Europe they are quite different, but not here in the states. Technology changes like the weather over there, and the US states are already 3 steps behind them in "gadget" catch up

It's not just the HD space increase, but the cheaper PS3 doesn't have WIFI, HDMI and other slots. That includes in the prices as well.

sony's already farged up...a year ago they said PS3 would be out in spring 06...well?

blu-ray may go the way of Betamax, DAT, Minidisc, UMD...all failed home use formats (there is a reason PSP movies are all on sale for $7 now...

My grandparents had a Betamax VCR.  It was supposed to be the wave of the future.

hit the english lang--first flag, go to specifications

specs for the 20GB and the 60 GB. The only thing I see is the HDMI output in the 60GB

The BIGSTUD

Sony said the 20 GB won't have WIFI either. It's on IGN.com somewhere or gamespot if you look for it.

Also they won't have memory card slots in the 20 GB.

Just brought my 360 home from the store and hooked it up to my Hi Def TV, two words: Holy shtein. I'm playing Ghost Recon right now. Doubtful I'll be leaving the house any time soon.
