That sucks. He was diagnosed with lung cancer just a few years after he started up smoking again at around 9/11. Everyone says that is a painful way to go, but he's no longer in suffering now. I was never a big news broadcast viewer, but he was very good when I did watch him.
THIS SEASON IS OVER AND ANDY'S WORLD IS GRIDL

Offseason needs: 2 DEs, 1 DT, 1 OL, 2 LBs, 1 RB, 2 WRs, 1 TE, 1 KR.

So incredibly sad. I was crying when I watched his announcement on TV a few months back. :'(

I'm not so sure about painful, but it is terrible and cruel. Being with my mom when she passed is something that will linger with me as long as I live.

Ditto for me with my grandmother. She didn't feel any pain in the end, but she was just not "Nana" at the end either.

I don't know if I mean physical pain like stabbing with a knife, but when you have to get hooked up to a machine and have trouble breathing, that must be awful. Not getting enough air is painful.

Anybody hooked up to a machine is usually on painkillers.

The man. The myth. The legend.

Former Phillies manager Gene Mauch  :(

Mauch still owns the Phils record for wins by a manager.

Of course, in the finest Phillies tradition, he has a losing record as a Phillies manager:  646-684 (.486).

His career managing record was 1902-2037 (.483).

Managed 26 years in the majors (1960-1982 with the Phils, Expos, Twins and Angels, and 1985-1987 with the Angels).

Ted Radcliffe, the oldest and one of the few surviving members of the Negro Baseball League, died on 8/11 at age 103.  That was worth big points to the lone player who picked him in Ghoul Pool.
The drawback to marital longevity is your wife always knows when you're really interested in her and when you're just trying to bury it.
