phillies will be under 500 this year...book it

Whiplash was very good, maybe the best movie I've seen this year.

MDS

birdman - really innovative directing from in-a-new-too shooting the thing in (what was supposed to look like) one take. obviously it wasnt, but many scenes were filmed with tracking shots and ran 5ish minutes uninterrupted. really cool how he pulled it off. acting was great. story was ehhhh. ending was corny. the further i get away from it, the more middling it is to me. in-a-new-too deserves a nod though. making it a passable film wasnt easy. 2.5/5

current rankings of oscar films that ive seen
1. boyhood
2. gone girlol
3. birdman
Zero hour, Michael. It's the end of the line. I'm the firstborn. I'm sick of playing second fiddle. I'm always third in line for everything. I'm tired of finishing fourth. Being the fifth wheel. There are six things I'm mad about, and I'm taking over.

boyhood was average at best and gone girl was a tv movie

There were a lot of movies I liked this year but few I was blown away by at all.

I agree with MDS mostly on Birdman.   It reminded me of Boyhood in a sense because it's a cool directorial trick/different way to shoot a story like Boyhood.  And I wasn't bored during either, but I also certainly wasn't wowed.   I probably enjoyed Birdman more because I thought Norton and Keaton were excellent but the story is meh.

Whiplash is the first movie where I was thinking about it a few hours after I left.

Rome

Birdman was excellent.  Norton was better than he's been in any movie since Flynt.

Keaton wins the naked eunuch.

Eagles_Legendz

American History X as a performance is pretty hard to top.  Fight Club was after it too (and 25th Hour is underrated).

nortons roles begin and end with primal fear

Nah.  He's great in that but Am Histoy X is probably one of my 3 favorite performances of all-time.  The movie is flawed but he's amazing playing two completely different characters basically.

no im not saying hes not good in anything else....hes great in amx but it doesn't approach primal fear....that was his mountain top

Rome

Anything requiring monstrously over-the-top overacting is OUT.

His portrayal in Flynt was sublime in every way.

In short, shut up.

i liked boyhood a lot more than you, but it might be...so far its terrible. foxcatcher and IV could save it.

They were...also liked zach g a lot. boyhood was a better story, but it was more of a cool idea than an amazing directing effort. just for simply doing it i think linklater might win, but he didnt direct the farg out of it like in-a-new-too did. the issue of course was the birdman story was just kinda there.
