I don't go to movies.  If I've been to the theatre five times in the last five years, I'd be surprised.

I pack in a flask.

yeah ill bring a half pint or pint of rum and dump it in a big cherry coke sometimes

Havas is on dead on.

Going to the movies is great. The inconsiderate jerks there suck but watching the movie on the big screen is much better than some techie's farging basement.

I'd probably go:
Dawn of the Dead
Poltergeist
Halloween
Scream

Then my 5th would probably be something from the 80's. Also, it depends on what you call a horror flick. For instance, is Jaws considered a 'horror flick'...or are we talking straight slasher/monster/ghost type films. For those types I'd have to consider An American Werewolf in London, Silence of the Lambs, and the Shining.

The only reason to go to a theater at this point is for the spectacle films, like say Jurassic Park, that will be better experienced on a giant screen with surround sound.
And in general, you go into a movie like that assuming at best it will be rote mindlless entertainment.

Why would you go through all the shtein listed above to see a film like The King's Speech or The Social Network which works just as well on your TV?

Right there with ya.  Havas put me on blast a little while back since I wouldn't go see The Social Network in the theater because I said that the movie would play/sound pretty much the same in my living room as it would in the theater.

Action/Sci Fi movies that have copious amounts of cgi and other effects are the only things really worth seeing in the theater.  Occassionally there might be a regular movie that catches my interest and I decide to see it instead of wait for it to come out on disc, but those movies are far, few and inbetween.

Agreed on Children of the Corn - scared me as a kid and makes me cringe now.

Anyone remember Phantasm?

That used to spook me. Id like to see that again to see how it aged

Ring had incredible atmosphere until the very end.  Wasn't a fan of the whole crawling out of the tv thing.

That was what got me too. I still think it's a great horror flick and even when she crawled out of the screen it was creepy as farg but it took the film out of the realm that it had built and became a little ridiculous.
