Seriously, lots of people got bent about Gervais' quips last night.  But those award shows are the most sycophantic nonsense on TV this side of Oprah Winfrey.  All those self-absorbed iceholes deserve what they got and then some.

That being said, I really liked Downey's response too.  Pretty sweet on the fly.

That's the brilliance of Gervais' performance.  If he phoned it in, he'd give no one a chance to shine.  They'd all do their speech and thanks and that's that.  He upped the ante, pushed everyone to show their ass a little more than they wanted to.  Some fared well, some didn't.  Some stayed too cool for school and the fact they did tells you something about them too.  He was superb.

Well, from what I read anyway.  TV is for goddamn idiots.

Iron Man 2 was completely blah. The Ivan Vanko stuff could have been cool but didn't actually make any sense. The idiotic drunken fight between Stark and Rhodes didn't make any sense. A lot of it was just a hot mess. Having said that Scarlett Johansson was her usual ridiculously hot self and it was a superhero movie so I didn't totally hate it. If they had shortened the fight scenes and cleaned up the story a little it would have been good. Instead it was just average.
Is rjs gonna have to choke a bitch?

I have never agreed with one of your posts more than this one.  And I watch a lot of TV.

True Grit.

It took me two days to watch it as I kept falling asleep.

Dinner for Schmucks

Horrible. And I usually like dumb comedies, this one was just annoying.

Watched Black Magic the ESPN documentary about blacks and the integration of basketball.  I never heard of it until last night, must have something to do with the fact that I was deployed when it came out.

Anyway if you like basketball or documentaries it is a must watch.

I tried watching some movie I never even heard of the other night.....What Just Happened? with Robert Dinero.  I only made it about 20 minutes before I fell asleep.

Gervais was brilliant.  I loved how uncomfortable that roomful of Hollywood iceholes got as the jokes got nastier & nastier.

As great as he was, though, Downey, Jr. was even better.   He's the Nicholson of this generation.

art of the steal - i pretty much knew the whole story from following it thru the newspapers and magazines but it was excellently done and i highly recommend especially if you dont know a lot about it

Buried.  Pretty great, I bet it was creepy as hell in the theater.  It was a little creepy in my living room.

The premise is a guy wakes us gagged and hands tied in a coffin buried underground, with a lighter and a cell phone.  You spend the next two hours with him.

Eagles_Legendz

Yeah I was looking forward to seeing that but it never got a wide release.

Reynolds is supposed to actually be pretty good in that, which surprises me since it's a serious role.

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds
