hayden christiansen was laughable as anakin.  zero talent actors are fun to laugh at but not typically when they're asked to carry an entire movie.  and the part where the emperor asks him to kill the kid jedis is about as idiotic a sequence as i've ever seen in a film.  he wasn't a bad guy throughout the entire movie, yet all of a sudden he's asked to slaughter children and he does it without a second thought?

please.

ive only seen bits and pieces of the first two prequels but christenson is impossible to watch...his brooding and moping is just off the charts...all things considered there probably hasnt been a worst casting in movie history

the movies could not have been saved no matter who was in the role...but instead of just being bad he makes them unwatchable
i can take a phrase thats rarely heard...flip it....now its a daily word

igy gettin it done like warrick

im the board pharmacist....always one step above yous

there's no doubt lucas failed after empire. all the movies after that had some promising parts but overall were blah. lucas really should've let better writers get involved because the story lines got progessively worse. but hey at least some midgets got work in hollywood.

the chance to build the darth mull and dooku characters was tossed aside in favor of a pod race and a failed attempt to tell a love story.

A Star Wars discussion? Allow me to summarize.

Many people in a certain age group grew up worshipping the original trilogy. Everyone knows that the first two were amazing and the third was enjoyable but sort of laughable thanks to the zippered up ewoks. Everyone also knows that the prequels were an abortion and that Lucas does not live in the same reality that the rest of the world does. Hayden Christiansen is the worst actor ever (scientifically speaking) and Natalie Portman is gorgeous but has no boobings.

There. Nothing more to discuss! Yay!

I don't get the Star Wars mega-love.  The original was very good, Empire was amazing and the rest of the sequels were pure shtein.

You shut your filthy whore mouth you filthy farging whore!  A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are farging legit.  The prequels got slightly better as they progressed but they started out like crap and never got anywhere close to the level of awesomeness as the originals.  I barely even recognize the prequels as an actual part of the Star Wars saga.  The original trilogy is where it's at.

Return of the Jedi was borderline retarded.

I always accepted actors/actresses performances for what they were worth. In other words I tried not to let it get in the way of the story, if they were good it enhanced it for me, but if they were bad I could live with it as long as the rest of the cast and story was good. Hayden Christianson was the first actor who I ever left a movie and said "he was terrible". The sad part about it is there are a million different actors that could have filled that role but Lucas just had to go with the unknown.

That Haley Joel Osmut wannabe from episode I was worse than anything hayden christensen ever did

It wasn't just him. Everyone in those three movies phoned it in. The writing was horrible, and there was no Harrison Ford around to say "farg it, I'm gonna do whatever I want."

The man. The myth. The legend.

Christiansen is a calamity but there are legitimately good and at least one great actor in those movies and they all stunk to high heaven. Poorly written, poorly acted piece of shtein movies.

I thought Ewan McGregor did perfect as a younger Obi Wan. Yes some of the dialogue was written terribly, but McGregor still sold it as young Alec Guiness

perhaps you could explain sd's reasons for "disliking" it as well since you seem to be so in tune with other peoples minds

If you say so. Like I said the writing was terrible and it might have made the acting seem corny, but I thought he did great.

I don't know if you can say the Emperor did bad either considering it was the same dude playing the same role...

It was weird seeing Samuel L playing a character that was quiet and wise and not screaming. III gave me the Samuel L that I wanted.

I thought Ian McDiarmid was very good. McGegor did what he could but nobody was going to duplicate Sir Alec Guiness's performance, overall I thought he did fine. Samuel L. Jackson was miscast big time, they should have had him as a bounty hunter or scoundrel.
